MALFUNCTION – A Painfully Realistic Superpower RP
Have you ever wondered how “superpowers” might look in real life? Have you ever wondered what kind of world might spawn such powers? …have you ever wondered if there was a world where having superpowers really, really sucked? Well, if so, look no further! [@Ogobrogo], [@Zoldyck] and I wondered the same thing, and now we’re proud to present you with Malfunction, the superpower RP where everything in the world is terrible! The basic premise is simple: a world united under a single government, where super-powers come with devastating consequences, and where supers (dubbed “Genetic Malfunctions”) are feared for their terrifying abilities. Malfunctions are rooted out during their late teen years, through a test administered every year by their local district to all students between the ages of 15 to 20: the time period over which powers begin to manifest. Testing positive marks you out as a non-human and a Genetic Malfunction. It means there are now two options for you. If your ability is too powerful, then you are put to death immediately. If not, then you’ll shipped off to one of 150 different Training and Education Facilities across the globe: the concentration camps of the twenty-first century. There, you are trained to use your abilities in order to uphold societal order at all costs. But even the powers themselves aren’t all sunshine and daisies -- this is the real world, after all, and dangerous mutations mean dangerous consequences. Throwing a super-strength punch means breaking every bone in your arm. Excessive use of telekinesis can cause serious brain damage. Malfunction takes place in this world. Specifically, it takes place in one of these Training and Education Facilities: TEF-149. MALFUNCTION -- coming soon, to a Roleplayer Guild near you!

Level/Word count expectations?
We'd probably classify this as high casual/low advanced in terms of words per post. Of course we love details and interesting writing... but we also love readability and interesting characters. And we DON'T love long posts that are only long because they're trying to hit word limits. So we expect paragraphs, maybe a couple, maybe a lot, but at the end of the day -- just use what you need for the scene. PLEASE. What really makes this an advanced RP is, well... basically the fact that we have a lot of lore and detailed world-building.

When exactly is this happening?
SOON (tm). Just kidding. We're set to have an OOC up by some point this weekend, Monday latest.

What are we looking for?
We're seeking dedicated players (or at least people who will tell us if they're going to drop out) who are interested in playing flawed, HUMAN teenagers with flawed, interesting powers, in a really terrifying situation. We want people who are willing to explore how having a superpower might really, really suck. This RP is about this plot... but it's really about the characters. And we're sure as hell going to finish this RP. No matter what it takes.

What kinds of powers are we talking about?
Each character can have up to two specific, one-function powers (eg. teleportation). Focusing on one power makes that particular power stronger than if you had two related powers, which are in turn stronger than two unrelated powers. We'd like to remind you to be very realistic about limitations and consequences of these powers. We have a list of example powers too, so if you're lost, don't worry! More details later! Powers that are spoken for by current player characters: intangibility/phasing, telepathy, healing acceleration (of others), super strength, plant manipulation, size manipulation, fire manipulation.
