Some inspiration for you: http://mauimagazine.net/the-sacred-spine/ I think Flagg wanted to stay away from standard fantasy races. Dragonborn are pretty standard in
D&D now I believe. Maybe try myths from polynesia, Russia or Balkan nations to make something unique? Just some ideas. One thing I like about the Mo'o is their body parts are used for magic. Could make for interesting conflict if people were trying to hack your guys tails off all the time-not to mention adding to the commodity list.
