Well-dressed and well-groomed, she’s the kind of girl you’d expect to see at a high society charity gala, or something. Her nails are always perfectly manicured. Her hair is always perfectly styled. It’s obvious just from looking at her that her parents have money — something in the way she carries herself, maybe. Xinyi is slightly taller than average for a female citizen of District 13, but that still puts her squarely at 163 cm, or 5’3”. If you asked her, she’d probably tell you that her best feature is her long, shiny black hair. A girl’s hair is her pride, after all. She has an especially trustworthy face: there's just something about the tilt of her smile and the set of her eyes that makes you want to believe what she says. Other than that, she’s pretty enough, but not outstandingly so.
Powers: (1) INTANGIBILITY/PHASING (Personal Physical Power): Xinyi can walk through walls. And fall through the floor. And do lots of things, in general, that involve going through things. It’s called phasing, or intangibility – basically, the atoms that make up Xinyi’s body can move extremely quickly, allowing her to literally pass through another object without harm. Weaknesses/Limitations: The problem with Xinyi’s powers isn’t that they don’t work well enough. It’s that they work very… realistically. (1) TIME LIMIT: When your atoms can vibrate quickly enough to move through a solid object without harm… they don’t exactly stay in place for long. Xinyi can hold a phase for about three seconds before her body starts to disintegrate. (2) POTENTIAL LOSS OF LIMBS: What do you think happens when an intangible object suddenly turns tangible while inside something else? It’s not pretty, let me tell you that. If Xinyi drops the phase and part of her is still stuck in an object, her limb will merge with the object. (3) EXHAUSTION: It takes a hell of a lot of energy to consciously force every atom in your body to vibrate at many times their normal speed. Xinyi can manage two, maybe three phases before she collapses or accidentally disintegrates herself.
Personality: Xinyi is the perfect young lady. Her table manners? Exquisite. She always knows which fork to use on what occasion. She’s a high society lady. Behind that enigmatic smile, however, is a painfully lonely girl. Xinyi grew up all alone in a big, big house, after all, with no one for company but for a handful of maids and tutors. If she had maternal tendencies before that, then, well… loneliness made it worse. She has a tendency to want to look after people in the way she wishes her parents had looked after her. Her deepest, darkest desire is simple: she’s always wanted a sibling. She’s never had any friends her age, so she’s desperate for companionship and, when it comes down to it… a little clingy. Maybe even overbearing at times. No one wants to be babied, after all. Xinyi doesn’t have a middle name… but if she did, it would probably be “sheltered”. She has a strong, uncompromising sense justice from watching too many television dramas and actually experiencing very little. At the same time, however, she doesn’t quite know how to deal with conflict. She’s never been in a real argument before… how would she know what to say? Backstory: Born in District 13 as the only child of an extremely wealthy pair of diplomats, Xinyi Li had a lonely childhood. Her parents were never home, and she had no siblings -- her only company were the maids, and a select handful of expensive tutors. She was a pampered girl. If there was a dress she wanted, then her parents bought it for her. If there was something she wanted to eat, the chef made it for her. Throughout her life, she was raised to be the perfect dutiful daughter: obedient, pretty and polite. Before she tested positive, her parents had thought that she’d marry a nice, wealthy District 13 boy and spend her life mingling with other high society wives. As for her powers… well, they manifested the week before the Test. One morning she woke up and was falling through her bed— things would have been much, much worse if she hadn’t dropped the phase before her three seconds were up, or went through the floor as well as the bed. Even for a Malfunction, Intangibles have extremely fallible powers: there’s a reason that so few of them survive the manifestation. After she tested positive, she was drugged and put on a bus just like everyone else. Money means nothing when you’re a Genetic Malfunction.
Talents/Skills: (1) TABLE MANNERS: This girl can set a table like no one else. She knows exactly how many forks and knives and spoons there’re supposed to be, and she could tell you, too. She’d probably have done well in a Swiss finishing school, before the Last War. (2) MATERNAL AURA: There’s just something about this girl that seems… motherly. Small children adore her. She can be strangely soothing. (3) LIES AND DECEPTION: What, are you surprised? This is a girl who was raised for high society dinners and mingling with politicians. Of course she lies like a professional con artist. Quirks/Habits/Other: (1) She drinks exactly three cups of tea, every day, without fail. (2) Likes cats. Allergic to fungi. (3) Has watched all 31 seasons of “The Slug Whisperer”. TL;DR: A well-bred young lady. Very lonely. Extremely motherly. Intangibility powers.
