Alex can be described as average. In fact, he is so average that it becomes exceptional. He's 5'8" high, looks neither muscular nor weak. Isn't fat, nor can you call him really slender. He prefers to keep his brown hair short, as it is most of the times a near untamable. It points literally every possible way except for down. His eyes are the only things that one might notice. For just how dark they are. The iris and the pupils are nearly the same color. Pitch black. Giving the illusion sometimes as if he has large, black eyes. He doesn't want a beard and makes sure to shave every morning to keep it from growing. Which helps making him look younger than he actually is. Not that he's working towards that. It's just a side effect of how he looks in general.

Comfort is first and foremost of importance to Alex. He often buys his clothes a little too big, so they more or less hang on him. He prefers the baggy look because, as the name suggested, it offers tons of pockets to store stuff in. More specifically, his first choice of trousers will always be jeans. Often they are just a little too long, so the bottoms scrape over the ground a little. Unraveling them a little. His shirt isn't really form fitting but very comfortable. Finally, he MUST wear a hoodie at all time. An Alex without a hoodie is an Alex who is not particularly happy by default. The hoodies he owns are mostly either light gray or dark blue.

First and foremost, Alex is not a- or anti-social. In fact he will have no problem to approach people he doesn't know yet. Whe he won't do is talk about himself, his problems, feelings or even interests. When he talks with you, it will always about you. He'll make a very conscious effort to keep it that way. Of course, when you ask how he is or what's up he'll answer: with a 'just fine'. Or a 'Oh nothing special'. Even when that's not true, he'll just lie about it. That's how he grew up. Keeping to himself. Never the less he's a very good friend to have. He's loyal and trustworthy.

Asides from that he generally sits still, does nothing big and can be very quiet. In those moments, he mostly is just practicing or playing with his arts. Which are incredibly important to him. He loves his powers more than anything. And he constantly strives to imrove them. He even keeps a grimoire, a digital one, on a stick around his neck.

He will rarely attack an enemy of his outright. In that, Alex is worse. He'll use his powers to curse you. To manipulate the small things in your life. Make you sick or vomit. The fact is that a hostile Alex is a very dangerous one. Because he has no concept of limits. He won't ever set the first step, but stand on his toes and you'll regret it. He can also be quite vengeful. Unable to let go of things and forgive people.

Alex was born out of wedlock. Obviously. What made it worse was that his father was already married. The worst? He already had a child. His wife, Leana, was out on a, art scholarship in San Fransisco. She saved for over 4 years, since she was 16 for the scholarship, as painting was her true dream. Markus was her childhood crush and now husband. The two loved eachother very much, but Markus got lonely. Looking after the newborn babe demanded a lot of his energy and after a short while he got rather depressed. He started drinking out at the bar and paid a babysitter almost every night. He encountered Hecate, who then passed for just Kate or Cathrine at night. When he drunkenly stumbled back home. Markus, despite being a drunk, still had a certain charm about him. And Cahtrine was a completely mystery herself.

She conceived the child the day Leana returned. Furious at Markus, she left in tears taking her paintings that turned their flat colorful. And Alexander's big brother, James. The next day she filed for divorce. Markus took it rather hard, falling deeper and deeper into a depression, fueled by booze. Until Selena entered Markus' world. Ironically Selena was a distant friend of Leana's, who was just in between jobs and had no issues making a little money babysitting. Everything Cathrine wasn't, Selena was. She was stable, most and foremost. Much more stable than Markus. She was also incredibly patient and very loving towards little Alex. While Markus knew he was slowly falling in love with her, he was first rather afraid of the idea of loving another woman. But somehow Selena silenced those fears. The couple married when Alex was 6 years. But he remembers nothing of the wedding.

All the while Alex grew up thinking he was just some other lady's child. Strangely he never had problems with the idea of never knowing his real mom. He had accepted Selena as his mom very fast. Everything changed though when he was walking outside at dusk. When suddenly a black veiled lady walked towards the house. Hecate. This happened when he was 11. She apparently demanded that his father would send him to Olympus Academy when he turned 16. Markus, angry that the goddess just then showed up, after more than a decade of raising her child without her ever showing up. He actually slammed the door in her face. Selena opened it again though, she offered Hecate to come inside, and discuss the situation. But the goddess refused. Secretly she would teach those who were rude to her.

That's when Alex began to levitate stuff and talk to ghosts. His powers came within an instance, and the boy was rather distraught about it. His condition worsened, to the point that he ran away from the classroom crying several times. This continued for nearly a year until Hecate returned with her request. That was when Selena stopped being patient. Surely Alex's condition took a great toll on her. But instead of using that, she told Hecate that she was torturing the innocent boy. Who had done her nothing wrong. Hecate, realizing her mistake, tried to undo what she did before. With no success. It was Selena that then demanded her to visit Alex every now and then. As well as to leave behind methods so he could learn how to control his power.

Hecate first saw the boy as a problem to her. But he learned quickly. It became very apparent that Alex had a certain talent for his mother's art. So instead of going out with friends and talking during the break times, he was reading his weird books and muttering to the air. He became a bit of recluse, though he went to a good school. The children never bullied him over it. Some still dared to approach him and learned that he was a good person to talk to. Mostly because he preferred to just listen.

At first, she saw him as a problem. An inconvenience at best actually. But as god she had a divine obligation to send him towards Olympus Academy. However, since he turned 11 and she 'cursed' him with an early activation of his powers, she grew ever more fond of the boy. He became greedy for more knowledge and wasn't afraid to test things himself. But what really caught his attention was his willingness to let things settles. There would always be mysteries in the world, and even in magic, some things had no explanation other than that they just existed. He was never arrogant that he thought he could unravel the magic to the very bone. He now thrives to make her even prouder of him. Because he knows that for every challenge conquered, his mother will have a new one ready.

[b]Spellcasting[/b]
Spellcasting is a very basic form of witchcraft. Spells are often manifestations of mythical energy, called upon by an invocation and channeled through a focus object. They are direct, fast but crude. Effective none the less. While Spellcasting might be the most basic form, it is one of the hardest to completely master. And even then, mysteries are all over the place. Spellcasting is directly tied to how much the caster knows of the invocation (a perfect recitation will yield greater result that random babbling, which might even be dangerous), material he/she uses for the focus (a wand made from 250-year-old oak will channel far better than one made from plastic of a broken toy) and understanding of the mythical energies flowing through the world.

[b]Rituals[/b]
Rituals are often (and wrongly) seen as just spells with a bit more preparation to them. It is true that rituals often require more resources (ranging from just chalk and candles to an entire forest, a hell-circle and the skull of a manticore). However, rituals are vitally different in the way that they use not the mystical energies all around them, but specifically from the ingredients they use. For example, the powers of Tartarus are usually not at disposal for spellcasting. But the energies can be drained through a Titan's Prison Siphon ritual. Do note that most energies (or objectives you want to achieve with) rituals can only be done through rituals. Again, for example, Tartarus' energies are exceptionally powerful to tie down foes. But the energies react extremely violently should they just be summoned and tried to be used through spell casting.

[b]Brewing[/b]
Witchcraft does not revolve completely around the mystical energies of this world and the others. Some draw effect from mythological resources like manticore poison or Cerebus hair. They create potent potions, capable of accelerate healing. Or devastating poison, which can destroy vast plots of land. For reasons so far unknown, potions their potency is at best when made by someone gifted by Hecate.

[b]Mediumship[/b]
Mediums call upon the ghosts and spirits of those long past but who, for some reason, are not allowed to descend into the underworld. Or who fight its pull still. Mediums act as a bridge between the veiled world and the real one, letting family members say goodbye or extract the name of someone's murderer for justice. Mediums can see into both the veiled world and the real one. But their profession is not without danger. Without the right precautions, a malevolent spirit can take over their bodies. Causing terrible physical and mental harm.

[b]Animation[/b]
Animator is a sub-branch of necromancy with a lot of popularity. Instead of using rotting corpses and bones to raise a puppet, animators can channel the same kind of necromantic energy into other lifeless objects. Allowing them to move (if they are physically capable of that. Animated tables will not start walking). Animators commonly construct golems from straw or clay. Making sure they got the right joints and such.

[b]Necromancy[/b]
A foul practice. One Hecate herself would rarely not frown upon. Early necromantic powers consist of using the bodies of the dead and turn them into puppets. They are less a soldier than any living, walking, breathing creature every could be. But the dead are plentiful and should you have mastered the right arts, keeping them from falling apart would cost surprisingly little energy. But the foulness does not stop there. Advanced necromancers use their terrible arts to expand their own lives, or even pull wailing spirits into the physical world.
