Very good, just a couple of things that need some clarification.

Unsure if he would be a captain, psychiatrists aren't usually military roles. 

You say he joined the military, which military and for which nation, the earth council wasn't founded until 10 years after the attack so it would have to be another nation considering that pretty much everyone in russia was made extinct from WW3. Also, you haven't stated reference to the devastators attack and the destruction of earth, also the fact that he would have had to evacuate to mars like everyone else.
