Hearing him announce that he had been with Zoe had made her feel a multitude of emotions. Part of her truly wasn’t upset. If anyone knew that sex could be completely meaningless, it was Jane. Hell, most of the encounters she had involved nothing more than just making herself feel good. But, when it came to Zoe, the physical realm isn’t what worried her, it was what could be lurking behind it. Rob had never been as flippant about getting intimate with someone as Jane was. Yes, he had his one night stands and casual flings in the past, but even the way that he’d describe each situation to her never made them seem meaningless or insignificant. That was what was so frightening about the situation: that Rob could possibly be developing feelings for Zoe. As he sat on the floor in front of her, she frowned and whispered a “hey,” before getting down on her knees and moving between his. Although Jane had her reservations of them starting a relationship, she didn’t know things would become so difficult so quickly, even if things were labelled as casual. It seemed as if no matter what avenue they went down, they couldn’t find the right answer. The last thing that she wanted was for what they had, whatever they had, to end, but maybe trying to juggle an international tour and the confusion surrounding their relationship was just doomed from the start. Either way, Jane wasn’t ready to think about that yet. “I’m sorry about the whole ‘pouncing on you every chance I get’ thing,” she apologized quietly as she brushed some hair out of his face. “We don’t get much time together at all anymore, and I guess the anticipation gets to me. Plus, it’s probably the only way I’m good as showing my, uh, feelings.” No guy had ever verbalized a problem with this side of Jane. The words stung as he said them, but since they were coming from Rob, she tried her best not to get offended, knowing that wouldn’t be his intention. “I know things between us have been so messy, and all the talking and not talking has kind of confused us both, but I’m not mad that you slept with Zoe.” She swallowed the lump in her throat before she continued. Her statement wasn’t entirely true, but at face value, the words were. “And I’m sure there’s a lot more we need to figure out, but let’s not do it tonight, yeah?” Jane smiled faintly as she leaned on one of his knees. “This is the only night we’ll have to hang out ‘til God knows when. Let’s not waste it.” She perked back up as she sat on her legs, each of her hands resting on his knees, notably showing much more enthusiasm for the night ahead of them than before. “We can do whatever you want. Whether you wanna go out or just stay in and be lazy, I’m happy.” It was true – she was completely satisfied as long as the mood between them was light and they would be able to enjoy each other’s company in peace, something all too rare as of late. “And, you know, feel free to turn me down if I get too frisky,” she smirked as she leaned in and kissed his forehead gently before standing up and offering him a hand. Hopefully he’d be satisfied at leaving things the way they were just for this one night. If Jane was naïve enough, she could have the thought that maybe a night alone would fix everything between them, but she knew it wouldn’t work out that way. But, if they both could just forget it for twenty-four hours, she’d be happy enough.
