I’m gonna pop your bubblegum heart[/sub]

This was truly the worst part of any given year at the Academy, the dreaded start of term where students new and old alike wandered about confused, panicked, worried, anxious, all manner of feelings for people who were stressing out over the day one rush. Everyone wanted to do everything at once, unpack, say hello, settle in, all before noon. It almost seemed more stressful than exam season, at least then it didn't involve easily distracted and highly temperamental demigods behind the wheel of potentially lethal steel machines. Some of these people couldn't control their hormones and yet the DMV trusted them enough to control a car. No one said humans were all intelligent, after all. And yet, some took to the day one festivities with relative ease; it helped, of course, having been part of the whole craziness for a good seven years now. But were she to look back on it, Avery Stratton would swear that she was just as calm and cool now as she was on her first year at Olympus. It had been a long seven years, but the beauty of heritage and having a year up on most - and several on others - meant that Avery had had everyone exactly where she wanted them. Behind her. Much like at the actual Mount Olympus and its Queen, so too did Olympus Academy have one, and given that Avery hadn't heard nor seen any indication of another spawn of the Big Ones taking her place in both age and experience, Avery fancied herself the Queen of Olympus...even if there were those who surely didn't agree. Who else had the length, who else had the genetics, who else had their eyes and ears on the very pulse of the Academy? There was a reason she took Dorm Room One as her own seven years in a row, it, like so many other things, was an absolute power move. And as if to further the point, Avery was rooming with one Cecily Merrick, and Avery would've considered the both of them as a bit of a power couple if it didn't come with such unfortunate implications. Avery didn't care about such things, but she couldn't speak for Ceil. The fact remained that anyone who was anyone knew that behind Dorm One in the female side of town was where the self appointed Queen resided. So knocking wasn't just a friendly suggestion. It was mandatory. But of course, Avery was now in her seventh year and before long she would be saying farewell to the Olympians and this knowledge gave her precious little time. This year came with a different sort of task to contain her time. All good Queens had an heir and Avery, at present, was lacking in that crucial element. Of course, the year was just beginning but it never hurt to get started early. 'I took the bed furthest from the window. Do not say I never did anything for you, darling. -A.J.' Avery tapped out a text message to her room mate with a grin. It went unsaid that Avery was letting Ceil have the window bed simply because Avery hated being woken up by the sun in the morning, so it remained a simple kind gesture. It was early yet. Arrivals were slowly streaming in, too much of a cacophony to even think about starting the search. But it would be free time soon. Meal time soon. And soon, Avery imagined, applications for consideration would be left at her feet, but grovelers would not be considered at all. Queens did not beg. They earned their place. Avery never begged and look where it took her. For now, Avery would finish hanging up her clothes in her side of the wardrobe. Then later, perhaps, the Queens of Room One could arrive in style. It was good to be back.
