[@Chaotic Chao] so to add to the idea of a used to be militant, maybe the lifestyle just wasn't for them or they saw/experienced something traumatic and they dropped out. Now they're down on their luck. Homeless, unemployed, possibly an alcoholic and Francis offers them something they can't refuse, a job, a residence, and a second chance to build themselves up again. The only problem with this is that we already kinda have that kind of character... but if the other ace is fine with this idea then I have no issues with it too

Another idea is to have an Equalist that eventually develops and mutates their powers. Knowing that they are going to be at risk and be killed on the spot if found out, they run away and are eventually captured by the X-MEN.
