Here's some general tips for you guys.

-Your character doesn't necessarily have to be someone from Anchorage, going specifically to Alaska. Back in the 60s and 70s, trans-pacific flights are very common in the north, and it was used as a hub from other North American cities to Japan. Also, Tokyo could be a layover to other places in Asia.

-Survival is a key aspect, but I would avoid building a dedicated survivalist.

-There's no restriction on nationality, though your character should at least know basic English for convenience sake.

-I don't have a hard age cap either, but everyone should be old (or young) enough to travel by themselves.
