On armors, magic could make the armor feel lighter than it should, and/or increase the strenght of the wearer, thus allowing more agility and speed then normal.

However, the biggest downside to plate armor, is not the weight, but its movement restriction. If wearing a helmet, your field of view is greatly hindered, and the plate itself is hard to move in. You can't lift your arm as far as usual, or move your legs around as easily ect.
