The thing with Lovecraft is that he gets repetitive rather fast. I can't read more than two or three stories successively before getting annoyed by how verbose he tends to be. That doesn't mean he's bad or anything, he's one of the most creative horror writers out there whose influence is felt almost everywhere in the genre now, it's just that the prose becomes a predictable bore when taken in huge doses at once.
