...I'm inclined to side with Framing a Moose on this one, if only because of the fact that John took the precaution to make sure that his spell was fired off from a different location then his own. Had John fired the spell off from his own position sure, but Moose does rise some good points. Besides, it isn't like he is speaking the language of demons or anything... yet anyway.
