[HIDER=BIO]After the Escape of Weapon X the project was disbanded and it's scientists scattered; the search for the perfect weapon was over.
Then like all things thought to be over the Project was resurrected under Dr. Martin Sutter who was working under the DOD expanded missions directive.
He and his protégé Doctor Zander Rice, whom he had raised after Rice's father was killed by the original Weapon X went to work trying to recreate the experiment. They were attempting to clone a suitable subject but found that they had a damaged sample of Weapon - X's genetics.
Dr. Sutter desperate to finish his assignment sought the help of a. Young woman who's radical theories had changed the views on the human genome. Her name was Dr. Sarah Kinney and she was thrilled that she'd been asked to participate in a cloning project authorized by the government. She'd finally be able to put her theories to an actual test, what she wasn't told was the use to which this clone would be put..
She went to work immediately and after nearly a year of research Dr. Kinney proposed the creation of a female genetic twin as the only choice open to them. Her request was denied by Dr. Sutter's protégé Doctor Zander Rice but he was over ruled by Dr. Sutter who told her to proceed.
After 22 failed attempts to reconstitute the DNA using a duplicate X chromosome, the 23rd sample yields a viable sample to combine with an embryo. The Director Dr. Sutter was away attending a meeting before the board, so Dr. Rice exacted revenge for what he saw as Dr. Kinney's insubordination. by forcing her to act as the surrogate mother of the specimen. When Dr. Sutter returned the deed had been done and could not be altered so he was forced by his need to complete the project to allow the gestation to continue.
For nine months, Dr. Kinney's every move was monitored; finally, she gave birth to "X-23".
Dr. Kinney was given no choice in the matter as Laura as she'd named the child she thought as her daughter was taken by the project. She was forced to keep her deep feelings to herself as she saw X-23 treated little better than a lab rat.
The two shared something that was aided by the little understood maternal bond all children feel for their mothers and mother's for their children. All the time she was forced to accept that Laura wasn't her child Dr. Kinney plotted a way to free her.
After seven years, Dr. Rice decided he'd waited long enough to see if the project was a success. He then using extreme methods subjected X-23 to radiation poisoning in order to activate her mutant gene. Seeing that Dr. Kinney's clone was in fact a success he extracted her claws, coated them with adamantium. He then reinserted them back into her hands and feet – a procedure that was performed without affording her any anesthetic. 
Dr. Rice then created a "trigger scent" that would drive X-23 into a murderous rage when she detects it thereby giving him control of the new Weapon X.
 X-23 was then trained over the course of several years to be an assassin. She was trained by the best in a broad range of skills, Sniper, Demolitions, Infiltration, Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism, Linguistics, Escape an Evasion, Intelligence analysis as well a few other minor skills, she was everything her handlers ever wanted in an agent.
It was during this time that Dr. Kinney had finally won permission to act more as Laura's mother from Dr. Sutter. She'd argued that for X-23 to better mingle in public that she needed life skills that she; Dr. Kinney could provide.
Dr. Kinney used her time with Laura to show her that the world wasn't filled with pain and that life could get better. 
 It was shortly thereafter when Laura turned 15 that Dr. Rice in a bid to seize control of project X assigned X-23 to eliminate Dr. Sutter and his family. However, X-23 instead revealed to Dr. Kinney that Dr. Rice was responsible for a number of murders of project personnel. 
Sarah went to the project to confront Dr. Rice but was arrested so he could gloat over her helplessness. But before he let Dr. Kinney leave, he revealed to her the scope of his plan by showing her the chamber containing the incubation pods for subjects X-24 through X-50.
Heading home enraged at Dr. Rice's blatant madness and hunger for power she made contact with a friend whom now worked for SHIELD planning to spill the beans and stop him
Before she was to leave for New York Dr. Kinney drafted a letter to her daughter, assigning her a final mission: destroy the pods and kill Dr. Rice and had it smuggled in to her by a technician she knew at the project.
With no love lost for Dr. Rice and knowing of his crimes X-23 succeeded in the mission. She escaped the project in all the confusion and chaos her attack had cause and went to meet with her mother and they prepared to flee. However, prior to his death, Dr. Rice exposed Dr. Kinney to the trigger scent; X-23 went into a murderous frenzy and tried to kill her mother but stopped just in time due to the bond they shared.
They managed to escape the project together and now live as mother an daughter.[/HIDER]
Notes - This is before she became a student at the Xavier Institute, her mother's other letter wasn't given to her so now she's a lost soul.
She has also not been found or arrested by S.H.I.E.L.D. yet and may not experince any of the above events unless you as GM so wish.
