The room was pitch black save for the steady green glow of the terminal monitor, the only sounds being the faint hum of electricity coursing through various technologies. Suddenly, almost imperceptibly so, there was a shudder in the darkened room, barely a tremor. A beep sounded from somewhere nearby and light filled the room, illuminating sterile white walls, an Institute-style terminal atop a simple white desk, a metal crate beneath the desk, two white lockers against the east wall and a white, oval pod lining the southern. With a whir, the pod split in half along the center, the top half tilting backwards and open, revealing a figure dressed in a simple white shirt and beige, pre-war slacks as they rested a pair of bare, Caucasian feet on the cold ground before standing up and moving to the terminal, reading the text on the circular screen. I had originally intended for you to read this following my passing from more natural causes, but alas I feel that my demise will be anything but natural. Our defeat seems all but certain at this point and any hopes I had harbored of asking my father to take my place as Director seem to have been in vain. He was not the man I had imagined him to be. He is a man of unbridled hatred, intolerance, shortsightedness and violence who has allied himself with the Brotherhood of Steel. If anything can be learned of this, it's that the nature of my parentage had little influence on the end results of those who nurtured me throughout life. With the fall of the Institute it is only a matter of time before the Brotherhood turns their sights on not only our remnants, but all other inhabitants of the Commonwealth, driven by their blind hatred for all that is different, or in their eyes, "wrong". It is with some relief however, that this danger will be relatively short lived, as the Fusion Cores that power their armor, transport and even some of their weapons will fail as predicted in less than thirty days. At this point, the estimate is that they will withdraw to regroup and focus on constructing Fusion Cores of their own before returning to secure their grip on those spared during their initial retreat. We also estimate that, feeling as threatened as they do by our existence, the Brotherhood will stop at nothing short of the complete destruction of the Institute and with it, the destruction of our own recreated stores of Fusion Cores and all research pertaining to their manufacture. It is with that in mind that your objective will be as follows: Locate and implement research that will allow the Commonwealth to create their own Fusion Cores. At this point, those who feared us will need to become necessary allies against the Brotherhood, whether they be Minutemen or those that refer to themselves as "the Railroad". Our original vision for the Commonwealth and, eventually, mankind has not been realised and we must hope that in aiding our adversaries, they will come to see the reason in our methods and goals. To aid you in your efforts I have provided within this message the location of an Institute sea-faring vessel. Your destination will be Shantou, a coastal city in what was known as the Guangdong Province in China. Our orbital network has observed light pollution uncharacteristic of many post-war settlements compared to areas such as Diamond City or even New Vegas. We have also noted concentrated radiation spikes typical of Fusion Cores as well as a hitherto unseen decrease in surrounding radiation pollution, both in Shantou and (to a greater extent) Taiwan. While we do not know what to expect from the locals, fauna or even flora, it is apparent that pre-war technology of some description is being used. Not only that, but the spikes in radiation are similar to those observed from our own manufactured Fusion Cores, suggesting the Chinese are similarly building their own. I have included programs aimed at teaching Chinese based on pre-war language databases to aid those who will be joining you on your journey, as I do believe that this is an undertaking that cannot be completed by any singular individual. As a final request, I ask that you do not seek out my father. I understand who he is and what he has done, but please, do not seek vengeance. Alway, with my love, Shaun. The figure stared at the screen for a moment, jaw tightening before closing their eyes and letting out a long sigh. Turning to the lockers and opening the one on the left with a callused hand, fully aware of it contents, the figure prepared themselves.

Fallout: Tānfāng begins December 30th, 2287 following the retreat of the Brotherhood of Steel from the Commonwealth the week before. In that time, a call has gone out over Diamond City Radio, asking for assistance from those who wish to keep the Brotherhood out of the Commonwealth. It asks for those who are willing to leave for an unknown amount of time on a mission where return is not guaranteed and it asks for those of any allegiance, whether they be Minutemen, Ghoul, Institute, Synth, Railroad or even those members of the Brotherhood who were left behind. Likewise, you can't miraculously dodge every blow that comes your way. When in doubt, ask in the OOC. - Rules are subject to change as situations arise. - The GM isn't infallible, but they still do call the shots.
