[@MissCapnCrunch] Tournaments frequently included jousting with dulled tips because the impacts were rather hard. Furthermore the "lances" always broke on a hit (unless you are bad and placed a bad hit) so you'd need a squire to give new lances. If I got "thrown" meaning if I fell from my horse, but I could still get up, it was possible that I could continue to fight by demanding a duel with weapons of our choice. This wasn't rare either but death was more common in these duels than in the swordfighting tournaments. Also most people did not remain conscious after being hit by a lance. So falling off and still wanting a duel wasn't really a thing since you were usually unconscious. Swordfighting also happened, usually not with dulled blades because armor was worn. Usually you had 2 departments: two handed blades and one handed. One handed would include shields. The tournament would be decided based on "hits" so if I smack you with my sword I'd get a point. I propose to not follow this in the RP because its boring. Archery had two departments; mens and women. Believe it or not but archery was a womans sport and men that did archery were considered feminine.
