[@Sohtem] -- Woof. Not ideal. I think I realized the problem right after I wrote that, actually. Was trying to force a plot thread that didn't make sense given the way things have shaped up for my characters, so my brain was automatically shutting me out. May have a solution but it might be less bombastic than the original scheme. In the short term anyway. :lol
