"I'm sorry..." Aya said to both of them, bowing her head in apology. "Please, just let me go. I won't tell anybody about what happened! And I promise, I'll never cross the river again after this." In fact, I'll barely have a reason to go near the river. She hoped that Destin would show up soon and find the Brom he'd been talking about. She just wanted to get away from these people. Even though they seemed unwilling to harm her, who knew how quickly the minds of these strangers would change.
Elauna raises a wolf eyebrow at Aya's pleads. "Will you knock it off? I don't have unlimited patience with the likes of you." She snaps. She snorts and looks in the direction Jayden had run off, willing him to find the little healer and hurry about. Something about Aya unnerved her and she didn't like it. It was something with the way she spoke, less hostile or afraid than most Rabins, and that irritated her.
Jayden follows the trail back to camp. He could make out Destin's scent as he moved through the trees. "Hmm, so Aya was telling the truth." He spoke his thoughts aloud as he makes his way to the healer. "Destin? Where are you?" He calls out, hoping to run into him. "Come here please. We need to go find Elauna."
Destin stops, hearing Jayden. He gulps. Jayden was a nicer Brom, for sure, but that didn't make Destin any less afraid of him. He sighs and heads back that way. He sees Jayden's figure up ahead. "Why are we finding Elauna?" He asks, his heart skipping a beat. Did they find Aya and she already told them the plan?? But why did Jayden sound so exhausted or tired or just done with everything? What was going on? Was Aya hurt?
