So I have been playing TONS of FTL lately and I thought it might be cool to have a roleplay based in that game, if anyone is interested. You don’t have to have played the game before to participate either.
In the game, you command a space cruiser in a futuristic universe where humans have achieved faster than light travel and made contact with intelligent alien species. You are a member of the Galactic Federation and have to deliver vital information to the main fleet eight sectors away. However, the Rebels are pursuing you so you can’t take your time in “jumping” between beacons. You start with several systems (shields, weapons, life support etc.) and a crew of three or four members, alien, human, or both. Along the way you will pick up the main resource and currency, scrap. You can use scrap to upgrade your systems or reactor, or at shops to buy merchandise or hire new crewmembers. Most beacons will have some sort of interesting encounter or event as well as a possible environmental hazard (asteroid fields, ion storms etc.) When you encounter a ship you get into a fight with you must: a) destroy their ship b) kill their crew c) accept a surrender or d) charge your FTL drive and jump away. During a fight you may have to reroute power to different systems depending on the situation. In a very dire situation, you might have to kill the life support temporarily in order to put the shields back up for example.
I’m not entirely sure what to do with a roleplay like this, but I had a few ideas. We could have the roleplay take place on one ship, and have each person play a single crewmember and possibly one person to decide what happens at each beacon on the way to the federation fleet, or some other destination if we don’t want to be a part of the rebel/federation journey. We could also have each person be a commander of their own ship, and decide their ships role/loyalty (like federation, or rebels, or even solo mercenaries or pirates.). In that case the crew of each of the ships would be more minor roles. Either way, one ship or many, we can have whatever kind of journey we want. Please post if you have any questions or ideas. This is actually copy pasted from a post I made on a forum years ago. Depending on which people would rather do, single ship or multi ship RP, I will write up some character templates/example maybe. I'm thinking probably casual style, potentially large group.
