1) i think a mixture of real and realistic.

2) organic relationship but maybe they can be put on teams based on random selection, if they characters hit off great, but they can always converse with other teams and possibly hit it off there leading to maybe drama. (i.e. one of the partners like the other, but they like someone on another team)
