He's referring to spiritually sensing God's will or what should be done. Instead of being something that you feel mentally, it would be a higher sense, disconnected from the Earth. It's not particularly able to be described, similar to color or taste. It would be greater with those who have a significant ability to discern, but that's a bit beside the point. There's a disconnect between what the two of you are describing and it should be on common terms.
