Often he's found roaming the [I]Vengeance[/I] with his coveralls half undone leaving his top half covered only by one of many dingy and stained tank tops. His feet are usually laden with heavy protective workboots, while his hands are often covered by tight fitting work gloves. A tool belt is usually slung loosely around his waist while dark welding googles sit on his forehead. Gideon's hair is usually left however it was when he first woke up, rarely putting the effort into styling it or even combing it. As such it's generally quite tousled and held in place only by the generous amount of engine grease that manages to find itself entangled in his light brown locks. It is not uncommon to find Gideon working shirtless either due to the heat of the engine room and other parts of the ship. 

In the event that Gideon is going ashore, he often swaps out his coveralls for a pair of loose fitting cargo pants and covers his tank top or t-shirts with a reptilian leather hide jacket. His work gloves are always in his back pocket with a spare kept nearby in case he finds parts to rummage through. Due to his lack of attention towards general hygiene, Gideon's face is often adorned with a full five o'clock shadow that it left further unattended develops into a patchy mess barely resembling a beard. This often attracts mocking comments from his crewmates causing Gideon to take the time to properly shave himself.

[b][color=slategray]Personality:[/color][/b] One of the younger crew members of the Vengeance, Gideon's behavior and inclination towards immaturity is well known throughout the ship. Gideon often comes across as arrogant due to his near constant insistence that anything and everything can be upgraded or improved. This is only furthered by him taking matters into his own hands and almost constantly tinkering with the [i]Vengeance's[/i] systems and hardware configurations much to his superiors' annoyances. That said beneath the cocky exterior is the naivety  of youth and a sheltered childhood leading to Gideon being quite gullible to those he trusts often treating older males as surrogate father figures and looking to the Captain as a maternal one despite only twelve years between them.

Despite his emotional immaturity, Gideon is very pragmatic, capable of using whatever is at hand to get the job done. His keen mind is highly inventive allowing him to see solutions where others can't especially when it comes to machines. With people however, Gideon can be completely oblivious especially to those close to him. Sexually adventurous, Gideon will be the first to tell you there's very little he won't try with a woman, that said he is also notably sexually excited by pristine pieces of machinery. His greatest fault however is that Gideon has the disposition of a selfish child, putting his own satisfaction ahead of everyone else's, this often leads to blows with authority figures when necessary system are offline solely because Gideon felt like tinkering with them.

[b][color=slategray]The Reason You Chose The Side You Did:[/color][/b] Joining up with the Independents had never been a goal in Gideon's life. However as a man with his own self interests at heart, the idea of an Alliance controlled 'Verse didn't appeal to him. Unable to follow strict rules and regulations, Gideon was an Alliance academy drop out who was constantly in trouble with the law. Seeing the Browncoats as the only way to ensure a free 'Verse, Gideon has donated his skill set to helping their cause and keeping the [i]Vengeance[/i] afloat.

[b][color=slategray]History:[/color][/b] Although Gideon Bao-Da Engelhart's birth certificate says he was born on the surface of Londinium the truth was he was born in its atmosphere, in the hallways of a Peregrine-Class Freighter. From the moment his lungs first breathed air, it was filled with the steely essence of metal and grease. Growing up on Londinium in New Cardiff, Gideon lived with his parents who worked for the Alliance transporting goods to outposts in need. Raised around freighters, it was only natural Gideon took an interest in them although his parents expected a pilot, instead they got a mechanic. 

As soon as Gideon was old enough to hold a screwdriver, he became a terror in his household. Nothing was safe from being taken apart and left a mess of parts. Continuing to grow, Gideon eventually learned to properly put parts back together and even started to improve appliances around the house. Eventually moving on to bigger prospects, Gideon began to tinker with the family vehicle and assist with repairs to the freighters around the business garage. Realizing their son's potential, Gideon's parents had him tested for an Alliance run technology academy. Scoring incredibly high on the aptitude test, Gideon was admitted and taken away from home. However the regimented lifestyle of the boarding school didn't suit Gideon and he began to act out becoming something of a class clown. Attempts to discipline the rowdy teenager failed and the school eventually escalated their attempts. Lashings which left deep scars on Gideon's back seem to keep the teenager in line but truth be told they just buried the seeds of rebellion. A month after the lashings started, Gideon hijacked a shuttle and escaped the school.

Ashamed to return home, Gideon took to the star ways, taking odd jobs on ship after ship in order to get by. But truth be told he loved it. With no rules to live by, he was free to do as he wished and whenever he had enough of the ship's captain he would leave at the next port. Feeling no sense of commitment, Gideon ensured that he kept himself happy. At least until the war broke out. With the happenings on Miranda, the 'Verse had shifted and Gideon realized that his way of life was in danger thanks to the Alliance's aggressive expansions. Signing up with the crew of the [i]Vengeance[/i], Gideon was determined to aid the side that was going to protect the 'Verse's rights to freedom and liberty.

The Captain and Gideon have a very tense relationship. Interaction between the two is often kept short due to Gideon's tendency to get on the Captain's last nerve. Having been told more than once to 'grow up', Gideon sees the Captain as being overly strict but hasn't left because of his love for the [i]Vengeance[/i]. The two have come to blows more than once over Gideon causing power outages and even leaving the Firefly-Class Freighter dead in the water due to his constant need to tinker.

While Gideon wouldn't say that Jackson necessarily enjoys his company, there's no denying that the First Mate finds his antics amusing. Always the first to comment on Gideon's antics, Jackson is usually the one to slow Gideon down before he gets himself in trouble with the Captain. The two have an apathetic relationship, one not minding the other but rarely do they ever seek one another out aside from matters concerning the ship. Gideon is aware that Jackson values loyalty above all else but despite Gideon's self serving nature, Jackson is just as protective of the grease monkey as any other member of the crew.

Genevieve and Gideon have gotten along from the moment the two were first introduced. Although there is friendly flirting between the two, Gideon has never attempted anything further due to Genevieve's career choices thus simply maintaining a flirtatious friendship. Gideon always goes out of his way to welcome Genevieve back from her voyages ashore. Due to their closeness in age, Genevieve is one of the few among the crew that can abide Gideon's more immature antics.

Of everyone aboard the [i]Vengeance[/i], Gideon considers Atticus to be his best friend. Despite being initially hesitant to talk to the Preacher, Gideon quickly realized the two had one major thing in common. A need to carve their own path in life, swimming against the current and negated the rules and regulations intended upon them. Add to that a love of whiskey and woman and the pair get along swimmingly. Probably too well for the rest of the crew's liking.

No matter how many times Gideon has managed to get under the Captain's skin there has been one person aboard the [i]Vengeance[/i] who has always come to his rescue. A former member of the Alliance, Camilla left that world behind to join the [i]Vengeance[/i] in their struggles. If the heat is one Gideon, Camilla is the first one to divert the attention to her in order to give the younger crew member some breathing room. Gideon is lucky to count her among his friends aboard the ship.

The older of the Pender sisters, Gideon has found himself somewhat infatuated with the good doctor often going out of his way to stop by the medical bay pretending to fiddle with one system or another. Ever eager to take his burns to Dorothy for treatment, the Doctor has come to treat him as something of a younger brother looking out for Gideon in a manner not unlike that which one would a little brother. Unfortunately for Gideon she seems oblivious to the efforts he makes to see her instead chiding his lack of care.

While both Lionel and Gideon can see eye to eye on numerous matters, Gideon's general demeanor has been known to drive a wedge between the self respecting business man. A matter of fact gentleman, Lionel has no time for Gideon's nonsense and as a result Gideon doesn't often enjoy Lionel's company feeling the condescension in the older man's tone. However there has been more than one occasion when Lionel has complimented Gideon's workmanship and skill diminishing any lingering animosity between the two.

Being the pilot and sole mechanic aboard the [i]Vengeance[/i], Daphne and Gideon have a strong working relationship. It also doesn't help the fact that Gideon has a soft spot for beautiful women and Daphne happens to fit the bill. As such the mechanic ensures that Daphne's every whim is met with a quick fix, the [i]Vengeance[/i] responding sluggishly, Gideon reduces the lag between the controls and engines. Take off rough? Gideon adds new stabilizers and boosts the initial blast. If anything Gideon makes more modifications to the [i]Vengeance[/i] for Daphne's sake than the Captain's.[hr][/center][/hider]
