But, the sky shouldn't be visible even if it was on the original course. It can't dig vertically forever, I think they should be traveling horizontally after reaching cruise depth, unless they want the Elicitor tobe crushed by the pressure, that is.

That's why I keep thinking about the tunnel, since it should logically collapse, if it's being dug on anything but bedrock.
