Wherever he is, he transmits an aura of importance, looking down on his peers with the stern eyes of a man for which everything, even life, has a value that can be quantified. Indeed, when things are calm, the mere sight of the man invokes instinctive defensive reactions and rising heart rate. But when the excrement hits the ventilator, suddenly his act makes sense, and his aura doesn't change in the slightest. The man called "Finger" commits to a very specific dress code that conveys the above. Sharp, straight clothes, clean shave and orderly hair - everything about him breathes discipline. But it is a very particular kind of discipline, that finds its place even in chaos. Indeed, even if some of the above is out of order due to a very hard day or an emergency of sort, nothing about him betrays this and often the illusion of order fools even the sharpest eyes. Why don't we get back to what's really important? Personality: The world around Dr. Friedrich Knochengeiger is split into two - those who know how he got his nickname, and those who have slightly less nightmares. The man who studied every nook and cranny of the human body (sometimes against the body's will), whose only reason of practicing medicine is the same natural curiosity of one who climbs under the hoods of starships for a living, can easily be classified as a psychopath. But we live in a more practical world than that, don't we? Indeed, this is enough for War to be attractive. How does the human body react to shell shock of all kind? How far can it be pushed? In a man VS machine struggle, does man survive? And if so, what does man become? These thoughts make one distant, and human interaction beyond that which is necessary to advance research seems pointless. But Finger is well aware of the kind of world he lives in - For even if one treats a human body like a starship, both their personalities cannot be ignored. To others, he seems a polite, not entirely unpleasant conversation partner, but not many have had the controversial pleasure of really talking to him. But in times of peace, Finger's fascination of the human body can yield interesting results. He does not ignore his own, often experimenting with its natural processes of adaptation to habitual changes, but almost never compromising his own health. The number of ways to practice his trade without limitation and without breaking the law is very small, and the military force of the alliance presents him with unprecedented potential to grow and advance. That is the official story, at least. There is also the matter of payback, though it doesn't linger in his thoughts nowadays. Finger is a very practical person, and being on the run while actually trying to get any kind of work done is clearly the exact opposite. History: Friedrich was born into a family of bureaucrats, and was directed towards the same set of professions since youth. He was put in the best schools, participated in arranged mingling with the "right people", everything to pave his way as a successor of the family's various businesses. His intelligence and almost brutal honesty eventually guided him towards law, and he began his academic studies at the very early age of 15. But while it was obvious to him that not all of his family's dealings were on agreement with the law, what came next was still a shock. Apparently his parents, along with his uncle, were involved in a vast fraud involving a high-ranking Alliance diplomat. It was a bold, ambitious crime, with heavy repercussions, that was apparently very typical to the collective personality of the Knochengeiger family. Friedrich learned this in retrospect, from his school sweetheart. While she was leaning over his bleeding, limp body, scalpel in hand, looking deep into his eyes with the most frightening grin he had ever seen in his life. On that long, endless day, he had learned that in contrast to what he had studied, not all crimes are punished by the system. Some people, powerful people with a lot of influence and political power, may choose their own punishment. He had heard his parents' cries from the next room, tied tight enough to make his wrists bleed, and then it was his turn. He had never seen so much blood in his life. She wanted something from him, information she didn't care if he even had... And somehow, by some cruel hand of fate, his body was strong enough to keep him conscious. This cognitive dissonance, between his affection to her and the pain that threatened his very sanity, between the information she wanted and the things he was learning about himself, the people surrounding him, and life itself, forced him into a state of super-cognizance while simultaneously detaching him from the world. When she had had her fill of blood, convinced he knows nothing, she left him to die from his own wounds. But he didn't. A year later, a different kind of Friedrich emerged from long rehabilitation in one of the private hospitals that were once affiliated with his family. A new man, without a mark on him, thanks to the best plastic surgery money could buy. He had a new goal in life, an epiphany, a revelation, the path he was always looking for without even knowing. There was a reason he had survived something worse than death, and he will find it. He would unlock the secrets of the human body, and the nature of humans through their physical form. And then, then he would make them dance for him. He enrolled into the best medical college his parents' inheritance could upkeep. Throughout his studies his attraction towards experimentation was almost compulsive, and he spent much of his free time in laboratories that would bring him closer to unlocking the secret of life. But soon the nightmares about that day returned to haunt him. He began to shy away from people, from conversation and especially from crowds. He feared for his life. Were the diplomat's men looking for him? Was she? And at that point his life took another interesting turn - while surveying all possible legal means to keep himself alive, he was exposed to the world of martial arts (and consequently alternative medicine). While being only slightly curious about the latter, the former became his way of dealing with his nightmares and phobia. His nights filled with meditation or reading instead of watching his own blood drip slowly to the floor. Soon he felt confident again, though in his own detached "bubble of personal space". And curiosity started to take hold. Human experiments were always controversial. But there were many stories of doctors trying new or alternative treatments on themselves, gambling on their lives so as to not deal with the bureaucracy involved. With access to the medical supplies of his choice, and an array of information found on the holonet, Friedrich began experimenting on himself. The kind of damage the human body can endure without long-term repercussions. The threshold of pain and how to reach it. It was a whole world of new knowledge, the only recordings of which belonged to old documentaries of PoWs. And eventually, having exhausted all means of self-learning that he had, Friedrich decided to reach towards the greatest source of pain, trauma, and torture that he knew of. The Alliance Military. But a commander who finds the correct balance that allows him to treat his men as individuals is nothing to scoff at. And as all kinds of balance go - it can be gradually shifted. Five minutes into her examination and the feeling of nostalgia was almost unbearable. But he had to be thorough, didn't he? Her record needed to be completely rewritten, you see. A modern work of art, conveying natural, chaotic ideas of battle against one's physical self, reduced to mere numbers on a chart. At least she was healthy.
