1.) Yes!

2.) On the one hand, point. On the other hand, one can argue that the first season [i]was[/i] a different universe from the later seasons, if only due to inconsistencies with it. Plus, one should remember that Osamu Akiyama only brought characters from the first season along - aka people who Ash eventually got to respect their Pokemon.
