You bring a good point, and I assure you there is a story and a plot that has to go with being centered around team nexus, I'm just trying to set things up for the rest of the game and features.
Don't get me wrong, there are times when the strength of pokemon can be the main factor. You have a well trained pokemon versus one who hasn't even experienced one battle as a logical extreme of sorts. I'm glad most of this stuff is getting through but I'm speaking from the viewpoint of a person who would probably use showdown as well as writing. I'm not worried about the writing session, but the showdown stuff most of us seem eager to use. And another note is how will two people decide on how things go and battle? Let's say you have two people who want to battle on two different spectrums - one who wants to write and one who wants to use showdown. How would you sort that mess out? Anyways, back to what I was talking about. To me, it doesn't make sense on the outlook of things. First off, you have two trainers, both of equal power. Move them to showdown, you tip the balance. This is due to one person going out of their way in the roleplay to do something on a completely meta level... well meta in my eyes due to either their performance and balance, or because of evs. Also, on another note, you bring up a good point [@MissFortune] - hidden numbers. On showdown, you aren't familiar with a certain persons stats. Even if you decide to set things to zero, some others could set these to 32 iv wise, or 248 ev wise. That's why I'm saying to allow both to be used by us when using showdown, aka, it doesn't matter if you don't ev train your pokemon, give them evs. It discourages the meta level of the rp in a sense and encourages development of characters, including your characters own pokemon.
