Would people have fallen in love with ISKANDER, KING OF CONQUERERS if he didn't meet such a poetic end?

Technically, nobody has ever won a Grail War. Even if the Grail was never corrupt, has a war ever ended happily? What do you sacrifice along the way for that single wish? I know exactly how my character will meet his end... I just want to tell the story up to it.
