He then turned back to the lifeform and then looked down and saw the switchblade. That should be useful. He could make a break for it and take it, but it could aggravate the lifeform.

After saying that, he stepped towards the lifeform slowly, as to not scare it away. While he couldn't throw the axe away, it didn't seem like he was about to lunge at it and try to hack it with the axe. So it shouldn't be scared, right? No more than he is at least.
