Or simply to drown out the howling of the dead?"
Name: Alexi Robsdotter Title: The Knight of Winter Age: 26 Gender: Female Allegiance: Machina Race: Human Personality: For one who fights for the Machina, the Knight of Winter was an exemplar of many of the virtues of an angelic knight. Unquestioning loyalty born of honor and oaths, rejection of modern technology for chivalric steel and sorcerous will, a grim and serious demeanor. But the loss of her order has twisted seriousness to the hint of madness and turned grimness to fatalism that gnaws away at her heart. In a more idyllic time, Alexi would enjoy the pleasures of a roaring fire, hearty stew, and copious amounts of cheap beer and ale. Personality Evolution: In practice, I settled on a far more deranged version of her personality. Aka, she used to be as above, but now she's plenty far further gone, while also gaining a sort of childlike aspect. History: Humans have never been the race with the greatest sorcerous potential, but that does not mean they have none. The short lifespans of humans could never master magic to a degree that would allow them to fight in the war between Hell and Heaven on a mass scale, and their breakthrough came in the form of machines. There are occasionally those with the genius and natural potential to in a short life amass the power to fight, however, even if perhaps the playing field still isn't quite even. The Knights of Winter, was once an order, living near the peaks of a snow-covered mountains, honing ice magic beyond mere manipulation of cold, and preparing their skills for when they were needed once more. When they were found and drawn into the conflict in the Nexus, their hearts were roused by the plight of humans seeking independence from both gods and devils, and they launched a crusade to aid the Machina. But they were few, and many were of only human talent, and they made no difference in the war at large. Especially due to the fact that the Nexus didn't seem to agree with them. Alexi became The Knight of Winter with a capital T because there are none left of her kin or fellow knights. None of her oathbrothers have ever been reborn by the magic of the Nexus, and what was once a righteous crusade quickly became a lone warrior. Gifted beyond her years in skill, but more importantly in simple fate that left her the last of her kind. Powers: The Knight of Winter has ice themed powers. Shocking. However, her LITERAL ice powers are... Lackluster. While she can summon misty fogs, icebolts, and walls of ice, they simply lack in sheer power compared to angelic or demonic magicians, or even normal Machina technology such as guns and shield projectors. While bolstered in an cold environment or weakened in a hot environment, neither makes much of a difference to the fact that her literal cryomancy is little more than a support and utility power save in the most absolutely ice or fire aspected areas. But her true powers are thematically related to "freezing" and slowing things, and the rebound when things revert to how they were meant to be. Inviolability of the Mountain Peak- This creates an aura which places a "maximum speed" on all physical objects within a short distance of Alexi. Bullets become dodgeable, allowing martial combatants with the skill to parry arrows the potential to parry bullets. Momentum is however left intact, because magic says so, so the objects become no less deadly. If something enters then exits, it resumes appropriate speed. Frostbourn Steps/Avalanche Strikes- Alexi can store up her speed, momentarily slowing her steps, to gain a great burst of movement, a "dash move". While her overall speed, does not change, sometimes it is useful to be much faster for a critical moment at the cost of slowness when you can afford to. Likewise, she can charge up a swing of her sword or some other strike, pushing and exerting her muscles, but her blade not moving until she releases the energy all at once in a strike that hits like ten. The weakness of both these abilities is that she cannot change the direction of the energy. Going right cannot become going left, and a thrust cannot become a swing, and being interrupted from focusing wastes the charge. Dazzling Snow- Alexi can "freeze" the light coming off of her, to slow its travel from her body. When combined with fast movement, this can leave afterimages and leave the opponent a moment behind if they rely to much on their eyes and reactions. Weapons: Her Oathblade is a magically augmented steel, that has served her well. It holds a keen edge and has not broken or blunted yet. It is also cursed or booned with the souls of all her fallen comrades. She does not know this, and thinks the pained voices are simply her own trauma, and not the fact that the Angel of Death has been futzing around to try and turn the otherwise worthless Order into a real force. The Oathblade currently draws upon the souls inside it to be very resilient, but if a necromancer with mastery of souls rather than just bones and bodies got ahold of it, or Alexi learned it's true potential, the power would be quite something. Equipment: The Knight of Winter is well equipped for the snow. But otherwise doesn't carry many of the useful gadgets like grenades or guns that other Machina aligned characters might. Does somebody need a big fluffy hug?"
Name: Sapphire Pink Title: Has not earned one. Age: 36 Gender: Female Allegiance: Angel Race: Woof Personality: Sapphire has a lot of sympathy for all the pain and suffering in the Nexus. She doesn't, on the other hand, have much in the way of empathy. She tries to understand it intellectually, but there's only so much you can empathize with something you've never experienced. With her unique feeding mechanism, it's impossible for her to feel bad, or anything negative at all. No matter what the circumstance, she can't help but feel at worst neutral about a situation, even if she is being skinned alive. No hard feelings about that, Pink literally can't hold a grudge. As such, Sapphire is perfectly happy to be in the Nexus, as there's an abundance of food, and she gets to make people happy by eating! Win win. Her goal is to eat as much emotion as she can, and there's ever so much of it. Except with those weird Machina, who are probably the closest things to something that can irritate Pink, as many of them don't have ANY emotions whatsoever for Pink to eat! Those metal people just plain confound her. She'd like to learn whether those Machina are feeling emotions and she just can't eat the, and how to eat Machina emotions, if they do have them. She'd like to know what those emotions she eats actually feel like, just the once, to know. She'd like to eat and eat until she becomes such a singularity of emotion that she can eat all the negative emotions across the entire nexus, and make everyone "happy". History: Sapphire Pink arose spontaneously from the complex tangled emotions of the Nexus. And she hooked up with Heaven because of her natural alignment. She's not all that powerful yet, even though she continues to feed. But maybe there'll be some particularly delectable suffering in the bigger fights. Powers: Negative Emotion Eater- Sapphire is fueled by negative emotions. In that she consumes and destroys them to generate energy. Getting a hug from Pink will always make you feel better, because she will literally start eating any emotion that is making you feel bad just by touching you. Note, this is emotions that are making YOU feel bad, not some arbitrary universal standard, so if the emotion of say, happiness, causes you physiological pain, Sapphire will eat that right up. Mirror of Desire- Sapphire can transform herself into whatever inanimate object or appearance someone else desires. So, if someone else wanted her to look like Juno (and that person knew what Juno looked like), Sapphire could use this to look like Juno. Similarly, if someone was like "Ack, I need a sword!" Pink could transform into a sword. However, she doesn't do both appearance and inanimate object at the same time. So, if you want a sword, and use Pink, it's going to be extremely pink. She can still use her magic while in object form, and can communicate telepathically with anyone touching her. Her limit is her mass (she couldn't look like Jormundgar or tranform into a Longship) and for inanimate objects specifically, she has to understand how to transform into them, so she can't turn into a Chevalier suit for example. Sapphire, of course, does not count as someone else to be able to copy her own desires. Negative Emotion Sensing- Pink can sense the general direction of nearby negative emotions. It seems to somehow be connected to her sense of smell. Power of Heart- Sapphire primary attack is beams of intangible holy energy that harm demons and phase through anything else. Weapons: Spells/Herself. Isn't that right, boys?"
Name: Cassiopia Julienne ??? (Last Name Unknown) Title: She makes her minions refer to her as "Captain Cassidy" or "Captain Julie", occasionally with some extra flourishes on the end. Age: 111, she's actually pretty happy with the numerical symmetry there. Gender: Female Allegiance: Demon Race: Slimecubus, Succubed, Succubus/Slime, she tries to maintain the ruse that she's purely a Succubus though. Personality: Cass doesn't like going outside much anymore. Surrounding herself with her walking fortress and minions is a defensive mechanism to not have to fight the world herself. Despite her desire for friends and attention, she finds herself unwilling to put herself at risk to earn them. She hides behind her persona of a cruel Pirate Captain or her outgoing cyberspace Profile. She tries to pretend she's got everything going on, that she's a high class succubus who's an elite hacker, has a giant battleship, and armies of undead following her charismatic and bold leadership. In truth, she's mostly just insecure and follows what everyone else tells her obsessively. But she'll still totally call down a massive artillery barrage on your house for headshotting her in her favorite FPS. History: Whoever bore Cass gave her a nametage, and then cast her out. Fortunately, survival was not difficult, even as an infant, with her ability to simply slorp along the ground and eat whatever. However, by the time she could read the nametag she bore, it had apparently been marred, and the last name was torn off. Still, she called herself by the two names she was at least half sure were hers. Being not a particularly impressive personal fighter, she went to college to study a type of spellcraft to be useful on the battlefield. How she found a college in Hell is anyone's guess. It makes no sense. There, she fell afoul of a "sorority" of other succubus and generally got teased and hazed mercilessly. One time she even got stuck in a reinforced waterbed for a week. As much as she would hate to admit it, that was kind of nice as it let her just entirely relax and let something else other than her own effort be her skin (nowadays, like a Vampire sleeps in a coffin, Cass sleeps inside a waterbed) Still, she broke free and pursued her studies. She sought necromancy in order to create friends, and when she mastered the art of necromancy, she made sure to put that sorority to good use in her thesis project. Or that's what she'd like to tell you. Instead she just tried to keep her head down and avoid ticking them off. Eventually, however, she "mastered" necromancy, and realized she couldn't really make willing and intelligent friends without willing souls. Which required friends. Which presented a circlular problem, because she had a cripling fear of people now. Retreating to the online world, Cass started hacking her way into the Machina network via her ghosts, and started learning everything she could relating to machina, hoping now to create a robot companion. While she has not yet succeeded, she has learned much, and is created an ever expanding hive mind with her networked minions and herself. Eventually, she hopes to steal enough parts and enough knowledge to create true artificial intelligences to be her friends. Given that particular combination, her shapeshifting natural ability is VERY good, as both slimes and succubus have mutable forms. Cass generally uses this to appear to be a pure succubus. Unfortunately, it's also a bit tiring, as maintaining a non-gooey form takes a lot of focus, and when she vegs out, she tends to just start goo-ifying. She has very impressive damage resistance, in that most attacks tend to splatter her around rather than hurt her. Her particular goo she is constructed out of is extremely heat resistant, having fed during infancy near and eventually in lakes of hellfire, but freezes easily, and being frozen damages her cells. As she is mostly made out of goo, most attacks specifically targetting the living, such as poison gas, don't work. Her strength and speed are pretty good, though she doesn't particularly excel in either of them like say, a Succubus like Fran. As a succubus, she naturally can sense emotions (particularly lust), twist people's emotions (particularly to lust), send telepathic messages (particularly lusty ones), and create illusions (particularly lew-ok, I'll stop now). However, she has not focused training on these abilities, instead focusing on her necromantic and technological endeavors, meaning these are generally more instinctive and passive than intentional, other than Telepathy and Illusion. Telepathy she's ok at but not with great range. Her illusions tend to be wonky enough that they're easy to tell that they're illusions if looked at carefully, but sometimes that's fine. An illusion of fog still blocks your vision just as much as real fog even if you know it's an illusion. Slimecubus Powers: Very good, but tiring shapeshifting, extreme durability (though not necessarily cohesively), near fire immunity (ice vulnerability), immunity to metabolic hazards, succubus mind stuff (Emotion sense/manipulation, telpathy, illusions) though not trained that well. -Necromancer of Machines- Cass's actual effort in life, rather than the natural ability handed to her by birthright, has been towards the disciplines of necromancy and machina, and synthesising that into necromancy on machina. First in college, she studied traditional necromancy, but then she herself brought her love of machines into play, and learned hacking and then started coming up with unusual combinations. Necromancer Powers: Soul Echo, Ghosts (with Hacking), Zombies (Networked), Skeletons (She can, but doesn't generally), Abominations (Necrolimb Armor), Corpse Explosion (Revengeance!), Shades Soul Echo Manipulation: Necromancy is a risky prospect in the Nexus, and thus Cass has put a bit of an effort in to make her necromancy more palatable, and not fall apart when the animated being is resurrected. Her creations are animated by flesh, magic, and the echo of a being's soul, rather than the soul itself. While Cass does know traditional bind the soul necromancy, she doesn't dare use it. Ghost in the Shell: While an adept hacker, even the best of hackers need an "in" or an "exploit" to start getting their mojo on. One of Cass's favored tactics is to send tiny ghosts to insubstantially slip into the enemy's circuits and give her a direct start at corrupting those 0's and 1's to her desires. Corpse EX Echo- Revengance: The Machina and Angels have some absurdly powerful attacks at their disposal, and Cass would love all too much to return that power right at them when they abuse her Crew. Rather than just normally causing explosions from corpses by burning the energy of their remaining mass and lingering echoes of the departed soul, Cass can cause also tap into the spiritual echoes of the attack that killed them, launching a corrupted version of the attack that killed her minions. Or whatever corpses she finds. The Dead Network: Zombies really have a lot of brainpower going to waste that they don't need, for all they moan about how much they want brains. Cass installs her minions with networking chips that communicate back with herself, creating an enormous distrubuted computing network to increase her mental capacity, while also allowing her to instantly give sychronized orders to all her minions. This also allows her to tap into her minions skills, which she has overly relied upon, having more or less 0 personal fighting experience if separated from her network. Her abominations are also part of this network. Necrolimb Armor: As any proper necromancer of class, or specifically of the Advanced Animations: Abominations class, Cass can create abominations, twisted amalgamations of dead flesh that never existed in life. Apart from the general combat brutes, mount-type, or ships crewmen abominations that she has created, her prized abomination that approaches being a friend is her Necrolimb armor that was her first creation in that class, which helps protect her, keep her in a mostly cohesive physical form rather than splattering and gooping everywhere, and boosts her physical capabilities from "alright" to "ouch". It has many limbs, eyes, horns, teeth and tongues, like any proper abomination, and this one even has a fair bit of intelligence. When expecting battle, it will usually be outfitted with shields, guns, and other assorted weapons. While her Necrolimb armor is part of her Dead Network, its connection is merely communication so they can synchronize in battle. It really is the closest thing to a friend she has, so she doesn't want to lose that, even if it would increase her fighting capability, as by the time Cass is personally fighting, she's probably lost most of her Dead Network and thus fighting skill. Shades: Cass would really love to have some friends and such that weren't part of her amalgamated networked hive mind. Maybe pretty too. So, she's learned how to make undead that are intelligent, appear mostly human with no icky rotting flesh, and generally are shadow instead of blood oriented vampires... But she's never had the opportunity to make one, as it would require a willing soul and friend to do, being impossible to achieve with just a soul echo. Machina Powers: Expert Hacker (she has intense amounts of brute force processing power from her Dead Network), Machina Reanimation, Salvaged/Improvised Machina Weaponry, the Restless Warband, and the Scrapyard of Insufferable Arrogance, which gets its own entire category. Machina Reanimation: Cass has mastered how to resurrect Machina. A broken body is not so different from a broken machine. There are parts missing and a lingering will of what those parts were once supposed to achieve. Even the most plain tool has someone who wished it to fulfil a purpose for them. When Cass reanimates Machina, her demonic magic bridges the gaps. If ammunition was missing, demonic projectiles will be fired, in the semblance of what those ammunition once was. Reactors come alive again with cursed flames even with gaping holes in their chambers. Salvaged/Improvised Machina Weaponry: Like some of heaven(and the machina) uses technological artifacts enhanced with holy magic, Cass often supplements what tech she reanimates or salvages with demonic magic or ingenuity. One simply doesn't use a balista in the modern age unless you've spiced it up with maybe some hellfire or icey alchemical madness. A common thing she uses is Hellfire Lava to replace gasoline, which seems to work wonderfully for the flamethrowers the Restless Warband love. Restless Warband: Sometimes the Scrapyard is just impractical to bring to the fight. It's slow, it can't turn, and it's really REALLY big. For those times, or to provide picket defense when it is being fielded, Cass turns to the Restless Warband, which is her collection of Undead that seem to just naturally be more enthusiastic about killing than the others, due to their unusually potent soul echoes. But why this is under Machina, is because the Restless Warband crew a fleet of motorcycles, buggies, trucks, and other light vehiculars, garishly retrofited with necromantic and demonic paraphanelia. Basically, undead demon Mad Max warband. -Scrapyard of Insufferable Arrogance- Cass has an army of undead networked with her to draw on her mechanical skill, and the boneyards and shipwrecks of an eternal war across an entire dimension to utilize, with her ability to resurrect machines to patch the gaps, and with that she has created the Scrapyard of Insufferable Arrogance, a hulking monstrocity, being to a battleship what an Abomination is to a human. It is created from mechs, ships, airvessels, trucks, and tanks, hulls welded onto hulls onto hulls, creating an undead mockery of the Machina flagships like the Elicitor or Contender. While of comparable or even larger size, depending on how rich the hauls have been of late to those vessels, it falls completely short of those in battlefield performance. It is incredibly slow and unmaneuverable, as wheels, legs, and engines, and even an occassional sail of all things, all of mismatched sizes and technological eras, struggle to push it forward. The idea of turning around is nigh laughable. Its armor is composed of scrap from vessels whose armor had already been defeated and deformed by enemy fire, and might have been left around rusting for a millenia or three, and that armor is patchy and unstable, full of weak points where the superstructure of whatever vessel makes this part of the hull couldn't hold much armor. Though, at the same time, it can easily shrug off the losses of huge portions of its structure, as it is more or less of a fleet of resurrected machines welded together rather than a single whole. Its gun coverage is unreliable and spotty. Its fields of fire are often blocked by wonky parts of its own construction, its weapons mismatched as balista and missile ports stand side by side in the same battery. And, unlike the Machina creations, made as a new whole, none of the salvaged destroyed vessals composing the Insufferable Arrogance bear any weapons worthy of being called anything near the main gun. For a "ship" its size, the Insufferable Arrogance's range is extremely low, bearing the main guns of much smaller things rather than a true proper weapon. But it does have one particular trick. Many of the guns on the Scrapyard are pointed inwards, being on points of the hull of whatever machine was being salvaged into the Scrapyard, that ended up pointing towards the inside of the Scrapyard. Naturally, firing such a gun would normally be a BAD IDEA. However, the Scrapyard has channels inside of it, ensorceled with enchantments, that when activated, gather all the shells and lasers and flame and arrows fired into these inward channels, gathers them at the central part of the ship, hexed into a swirling ball of purplish demonic corruption, which then fires upward and lobs itself at whatever Cass decides needs to die, to shower them in a rain of corrupted munitions. These enchantments take a turn or two of recharging after firing. All in all, the description of "Mockery" is the most appropriate of the Scrapyard of Insufferable Arrogance in comparison to the Machina creations it apes. It cannot match them in any metric, defense, offense, or maneuverability. But it is created by a singular Demon's passion, out of the Machina's own failures and losses, to say "Oh look, I can do it too, it's not so hard!" And to someone who is NOT a machina created battleship, the very size of the Scrapyard of Insufferable Arrogance may be sufficient intimidation to hide the flaws of what is essentially a thousand dilapidated wrecks reanimated and fused into the tortured semblance of a battleship. Oh, dear, except you, sorry, I'm gonna shoot you a lot."

Name: Tsukuyomi Goddess of the Moon
Age: 999 Gender: Female Allegiance: The Angels of Heaven Race: Goddess Height: 5'9" Weight: Ah, this armor makes me look fat doesn't it? It's not me, really! Personality: Shy and personable at the same time, Tsukuyomi loves being with others, but is never quite brave enough to take the forefront unless her sisters are with her. When her sisters are with her, she can let that shine forth and be bubbly and active which occasionally leads to her going a little too far with Amaterasu. She hates to see either one of her sisters distressed and tries to make peace between Susanoo and Amaterasu, or solve her own trespasses against Amaterasu as quick as she can. Outside of combat, Tsukuyomi loves taking care of her pet rabbit and cosplaying duo with it, even if she's generally too shy to show anyone. Some might think it's strange for a rabbit to have a pet rabbit, but Tsukuyomi loves her rabbit Rabbit anyway. History: In the distant past, Amaterasu was slain by her brother, Tsukuyomi, out of jealousy and hatred, who later came to the realization that life wasn't all that great if he didn't have his sister. Out of depression and sadness, Tsukuyomi eventually committed suicide, rejoining his sister in death, much to the dismay of Susanoo. Susanoo fell into a depression that eventually led to his death, in a sense. While the depression was not the exact cause of Susanoo's death, it is believed to have played a big part as Susanoo charged against armies, willingly fighting until he would eventually fall in battle. Much later, the three deities were reincarnated into their forms, at roughly the same times. Acting as a unit, the triplet trio of Godly Sisters was born into the Heavens, retaining their knowledge of their powers and strengths, and tasked with the goal of keeping the Heavens safe from any harm. The middle triplet of the Godly Sisters (by one and four minutes respectively) was born with half heart. Her sister Susanoo had a whole heart, and Amaterasu barely had a heart, but Tsukuyomi had half one. In order to prevent himself from ever harming Amaterasu again, Tsukuyomi had sealed his jealousy, anger, and anything else he thought might cause him to harm her inside his bow. This lead to Tsukuyomi's emotional dependence on her sisters. Powers: Flight - Tsukuyomi can fly, shifting the tides of her personal gravity and flitting about on wings of moonlight. Lunar Manipulation - Tsukuyomi is able to manipulate her connection to the moon in all sorts of ways. She's all over the place. While the most prominent ability is ice, Tsukuyomi is not as adept at ice as Amaterasu is defensive with sun and fire, or Susanoo is powerful with lightning. But she has a broader range of abilities, and in particular most of her non-ice abilities give her unpredictable maneuverability.
[+] Sliding Ice of Trickery - Tsukuyomi can create spreading ice sheets from under her feet that somehow helps her skate where she wants to go even faster and easier than usual. For anyone following her, it seems to be a trail of regular ice. Right up until it stabs you by suddenly spiking upwards. [+] Frost Armor - Tsukuyomi can't dodge everything, no matter how much she tries, and so has an elemental armor like her sisters. It doesn't have any neat rider effects like Susanoo's attack booster or Amaterasu's reflection though. [+] Chill of Death - Tsukuyomi's arrows need a little extra umph, and this is that umph. She enchants her arrows to, upon striking, unleash ice into the tiniest cracks the arrow creates, expanding the crack and tearing what she hits apart. Hopefully. If it doesn't breach, the ice will just create a frozen shell. [+] Shifting Tides - Tsukuyomi can manipulate her personal gravity and momentum for sudden shifts to unexpected directions. She also uses this a lot to help her balance while doing Taekwando in midair while holding a bow, and that particular use of it has become instinctive. [+] Erratic Orbit - Tsukuyomi can designate a target that she will suddenly begin orbiting around, just one more way to unpredictably move. She can also do this for her arrows, allowing her to curve her shots. [+] Totem of the Rabbit - Tsukuyomi can call upon the power of rabbit-ness to gain additional speed, especially on the ground. It also raises her kicking power a fair bit. Any allies nearby that are willing to gain ephemeral bunny ears also gain a little bit of a speed boost. [+] Bunny Shaped Rice Cakes - Tsukuyomi carries with her little rice cakes that she swears give you the energy to run forever. While perhaps hyperbole, they still do seem to regenerate stamina, though not magic or wounds.
Weapons: God Kicker Boots - Tsukuyomi's boots are enchanted like weapons, because on Tsukuyomi's feet, they definitely are. Nearly unbreakable, and conductive to heavenly powers. They also shift slightly to accommodate the changes to Tsukuyomi's feet when she uses Totem of the Rabbit. Counting Bow with the Fate of Death - When Tsukuyomi draws back an arrow, a mirror arrow is created near each ally that stands (or as is more often the case flies) with her, allowing her to turn everyone in her company into an archer. When performing an arrow barrage like this, while including anyone who is not her sister, Tsukuyomi cannot enchant any of these arrows. If the only partners involved are her sisters, she can still enchant them. When one of her sisters perishes, Tsukuyomi is made aware of what killed them, and can fire arrows through her link with her sisters and the nature of death, from the tip of her bow to the space within a meter or so of her sister for one vengeance barrage. This bow is summoned by her heart whenever Tsukuyomi makes to draw back an arrow with it. Kinda boring, actually."
Name: Cydone Title: The Unstoppable Blade Age: 563 Gender: Male Allegiance: Angels of Heaven Race: Angel Personality: Relaxed: Cydone doesn't care too much about winning or losing generally, so he doesn't see much at stake. Enjoys a Good Time: Cydone enjoys a drink and enjoys a fight, and if the opponent's a bit too weak, then maybe he'll do both at the same time to even things up. Appreciates Zeal: What matters is that you tried your best. Not in a grand cosmic scheme, no, giant space monsters will still crush your face in, but on a personal level. History: Not the most ancient angel, Cydone's the product of a long family line of warrior angels. These angels, perhaps humorously, follow an ancient style of cowboy dress due to their heirloom weapon passed down along the line. Sometimes clinging to an old style doesn't always look like regal and pristine robes. Cydone's a veteran of relatively few battles, after each defeat secluding himself to train up a counter to his perceived primary weakness. Or so he says. He often seems to be found in bars while supposedly training. And he doesn't seem to ever come back with a new move. Ah well, such is life in the nexus, where everyone from skeletons to hammers wants a drink. Powers: Inertia Manipulation - Cydone's primary power is to manipulate the inertia of objects, capable of rendering it so low that they zip off at incredible speeds if nudged, or so high that it will come apart at a molecular level before they change velocity. Flight - Wings not included in picture, but let's pretend. Reflexes - Cydone can move pretty dang fast in a straight line with Inertia Manipulation shenanigans, so he's gotta have the reflexes to keep up with himself and not splat on landing. Triple Engraved Chakra - Cydone can spend a little bit of life energy and some extra time to make his inertia magic much harder to dispel. Reality Check - As a mage of the "altering physical laws" type, he's learned to sense when other people are messing with them too. If you're twisting time, space, or such, Cydone'll know. He might not be able to do anything about it, but he'll know. Heirloom Blade - Cydone wields a revolver gunblade, which is a pretty damn old relic passed down through his family since before the Machina were a meaningful faction and the mechanical implications of electricity were realized, much less robots existed, made by a loyal human retainer as a tithe. Generations of Cydone's family have enhanced this blade when they finally passed on with a more final version of Triple Engraved Chakra. Cydone's really not sure of all the enchantments that are on it*, but it's hard enough that it's never broken when he slammed it against something with maximum inertia, it doesn't need sharpening, it seems to have anti-demon corruption stuff and other general holy magic enhancements, and it's got a nifty trick where it unleashes wind slashes that Cydone can enhance. Making his own ammunition is a bit of a pain though, given how old it is. Equipment: Plenty of reloads for his revolver, as well as some shuriken and buckshot rounds that he'll explode in his hands for surprise close range shrapnel bursts. He's also got some wire he'll spool around his blade or attach to grapnels for more inertia manipulation shenanigans. Allegiance: Demons of Hell Race: All of them. ALL. Personality: Demented and obsessed. Artoria has ONE thing she cares about, and that is turning the entire world into cute animal girls. Artoria has some weaknesses towards people who are already animal girls, but usually not ones of the cute type she is oft to transform people into, perhaps oddly. This seems to also/particularly be the case for snake types. Artoria seems to swing wildly between cowardice and fearlessness, depending on how badly she wants to transform the particular target she has latched onto. One thing Artoria has in particular wanted to try is assimilating is the power of the gold and silver eyes. But she hasn't bested any silver or gold eye users in combat yet to use her Khimaira Protarchikos on. History: The opening blurb about sums things up. Artoria's life before becoming who she is now is relatively uninteresting and unimporatant. And who she is now is relatively simple, a person who obsessively punches people into cute monster girls, steals their powers, and then runs off, not knowing what to do with someone once's she's finally caught them. Powers: Manifest Destiny - It is Artoria's personal mission in life to transform everything into cute animal girls, whether they originally be giant robots or insubstantial energy beings, and her sheer force of unstoppable will has granted her the capacity. Upon inflicting what would otherwise be damage* upon a being, Artoria may instead transform them into a cute animal girl in proportion to the damage they would otherwise do. Machina seem to be particularly vulnerable to this, transforming more than they should based on the rather minimal damage punching a giant robot in the shin should. Angels seem rather resistant. Machina also tend to lose more of their power upon such transformation, as they tend to lose a lot of important techno-gear when they cease to be a robot and become flesh and blood, while Angels are frequently already animal people and all their powers still work upon transforming. *this ability also causes attacks to be treated as type appropriate before considering whether they would do damage. Ghosts, pure energy beings, and immaterial concepts can all be punched into cute animal girl-ness by Artoria's reality warping obsession. Khimaira Protarchikos - Artoria proved a far more potent Chimera than many many other experiments by Hohenheim, seemingly through sheer will and spiritual compatibility, because her initial physical form was entirely lackluster and ordinary before transformation into a Chimera. Artoria seems to be absolutely insatiable in her ability to assimilate new forms and powers simply by witnessing them, activating them on or off at will with shapeshifting. Even such legendary beings as dragons and the Leviathan don't seem to even require her to stretch her capacity. Of course, for some reason, they seem to have to be in animal forms that Artoria finds cute before she can steal abilities from them, with the odd exception of the Leviathan. Driven. Outspoken. Humanophile? Demonophile? Personality Evolution: Curiosity: The reason why she loves engineering and machina and meeting new people. With her Angel Loyalty, Drive, and other stats at lows, that's why one of the first things she did when she got to Hoho's castle was to try and science out how the edge of the Nexus and other things worked. But that got stopped immediately. Loves Attention: Of pretty nearly any kind. The primary reason she likes Henry is because Henry has frequently paid attention to her. Despite that attention being that of an obsessive desire to make her a possession without any consideration to her own feelings. And when Juno and Dora basically told her "stop whining and fight", despite that being appropriate, Miyu nonetheless felt like they weren't paying any attention to her or her problems, which was another hit against her Angel Loyalty stat. Similarly, when Deva granted her a gift that seemed inappropriate to the situation, it felt to Miyu like Deva wasn't really paying attention (and to be honest, she's probably got a ton of calls to take) and just threw a power up at her to try and make the problem go away and stop bothering her. Loyalty to the Angels: This used to be really strong, but it's taken huge hits from the conversations with Iona, Deva, Juno and Dora. It's still there, but it's hanging by a thread. Drive to Win: At first, she was fresh off battles where she was a big fish in the small pond and was really making a difference. And then in the following battles, she was absolutely crushed in succession and was arguably more harmful to the angels than to anyone else (her one point capture destroyed half the angelic forces, and while she took out demon grunts, she also bombed Alt Signia). She started to feel like a coward first for how she wasn't willing to kill herself to avoid capture, and then second how she wasn't willing to let herself be captured to help the angels. So, her self-confidence and drive were at a low, so she tried to cheer herself up by throwing a party and playing to her "Sees Good in Everyone" stat. And while asking Iona for gift ideas.. Iona told her that the war is designed to be an endless battle for the amusement of mysterious beings with no escape and that peace even through victory is impossible by design. (Now, that may not be the message Iona meant to communicate, but it's what Miyu understood, and when Miyu repeated it back to make sure she didn't mishear, Iona didn't correct her, so she assumes that's the truth.) That hit her loyalty to the Angels pretty hard and absolutely crushed her drive to win. She feels worthless and that her contributions are meaningless. Sees Good in Everyone: Miyu likes Balrog, and thinks he's a nice guy. BALROG. She thinks his violent destructed tendencies make sense in a world where people come back from the dead, and that he directs his anger at valid opponents, but was a remarkably good friend to his allies. Miyu likes people, and wants to see the best in them, and to see them succeed (and have them pay attention to her). Her desire for peace springs from this. A lot of her drive comes from the thought that winning the war for the Angels would bring about the best form of peace. Now with what Iona said, that seems impossible, and that angelic high command doesn't deserve to win if they've been supporting a meaningless war. Revolver Ocelot Syndrome: Miyu betrays people, things, and herself. This is not a natural part of her personality with ebbs and flows and reasons like the others. It just is there, a compulsion that she doesn't even realize. On a smaller scale, her fighting style is all about trickery. On a larger scale, even with how Miyu was starting to like Henry, she would have still betrayed him, even if her loyalty wasn't to the angels. In summary: She's nearly but not quite lost her loyalty to the angels, her drive to win has been utterly crushed, seeing the good in everyone seems impossible, no one's paying attention to her (in Miyu's self-absorbed mind), and Juno punished her for trying to indulge her curiosity. She's running on a scrap of loyalty and Revolver Ocelot Syndrome. That's all she got left. History: The event that changed the course of destiny of Miyu from a low ranking noble of a family that long since lost its warrior blood to a lonely blade anathema to her own people, was not some great betrayal, or tragic death, or even inspiring mentor. It was when she saw a shiny piece of glass, fallen on the street of a human world, and tried looking through it. She could read letters from far away! She was nearsighted. This little thing trickled down, changing her perspective and world. This little invention allowed her to finally see the world clearly, but her parents did not allow it to her for the sake of pride. A nearsighted angel? Miyu saw this as folly. Weren't her swords a tool, because she didn't have claws? Armor because she lacked scales? Where should the line be drawn between a righteous tool and unrighteous? Her family was weak and getting weaker, but they refused to innovate or adapt, for honor and pride. That would not be her, Miyu resolved. Miyu frequented human worlds in secret, easily passing for human with the addition of a cloak (ok, she may have restricted her visits to costume festivals), and acquiring her most previous possession, her glasses. She learned something of human ways, and found many aspects admirable. As evidenced by her picture, she is still not a complete master of human clothing. It was in a later battle against the Machina of Man that the final change took place, though her decision had long since been made. The numerically inferior garrison-quality force of an unimportant world dealt absurd casualties to a supposedly superior angelic host. Lack of willingness to adapt to enemy tactics and the enormous disparity of equipment allowed what should have been a decisive victory to become a Pyrrhic one. When fiefs were awarded to the noble houses participating in the assault, Miyu took for her own a smog drenched industrial holding that none of the others wanted. Because inside it was a factory for the Daimyo V Battlesuit. Even without workers or further supplies, the resources already there would allow Miyu to equip herself for quite some time, as she was a lone soldier and not a regiment. Adopting the ways of war of the Machina was not without political repercussions. Miyu lost her family name, was dismissed from her unit, and generally an absolute outcast of angel society. But she is still determined to prove the worth of technology, roaming hopeless battlefields and saving or turning the tide when angelic commanders have no hope but to call on any and all assistance to win the battle. Daimyo V Battlesuit: That's a V, not a roman numeral five. It also looks like this. As you might note from the combined facts of "no wings" and "angel legs don't bend like that" this is less of a suit of armor than a piloted mech, being 16 feet tall, Miyu piloting from the chest of the mech. Apart from a standard-grade hyperedge blade, the Daimyo V is loaded entirely with defensive measures. Heavy armor plating protects the Daimyo V from most attacks, the heavily armored shoulder and back pads easily capable of tanking airstrike and artillery rounds. There are some vulnerabilities from below in the heavy armor, the back pads are shielding exhaust vents for the primary reactor. Numerous micro-missile anti-missile systems are secreted about the Daimyo, their detection systems are mostly effective when given a specific arc or target to defend against. They can also be placed on anti-infantry, but are not terribly effective. However, most importantly, is the AEGIS VII (that is a Roman Numeral this time) shield system. The Daimyo V has no energy weapons or flight systems, allowing it to spend exorbitant amounts of energy on its shields, proportional to its size. When all shield power is focused on a single arc, it provides nigh-invulnerability against weapons of the Daimyo V's weight and tech class, and the front arc is even stronger than any other arc. One weakness to this system is that, while the back and rear shield projectors are shielded under the heavily armored pad and smaller, the front arc shield projector is vulnerable (see that green orb?). While it's not a super "shoot here you win" weakpoint, it is a "shoot here and the front arc is sans shields". Unfortunately for Miyu, the Daimyo V, while a fine piece of technology, is not some super wonder prototype with performance off the scale. It's a mass production model, albeit, a quality one. Mantle of Unconquerable Sun: A basic angelic spell of shielding your weapons and armor from demonic and other magical influence. No amount of magic resistance is very useful if your opponent can turn your armor into an iron maiden or phase right through your weapon. Low level angels like Miyu who often have to make do with less mystical or legendary weapons must learn spells to provide their weapons and armor impromptu enchantments. Given Miyu's armament... She has taken this spell above and beyond the scale it was originally intended for, though the strength has suffered somewhat, the Daimyo V still vulnerable to mystical assault, though more resilient than normal Machina. Her specialization and effort has afforded her much more skill in it than most other angels of her class, though, and unlocked another effect, that of "unifying" the armor and weapon. Armor piercing attacks have their penetration power nullified as the impact is diffusely spread across the armor, and the Daimyo V's blade can clash edge on edge or strike heavy armor without blunting. This obviously doesn't do anything to attacks that are already diffuse, like explosions. This spell combines quite well with the naturally defensive Daimyo V to make Miyu irritatingly difficult to put down for normal troops on the battle field. Mantle of Unconquerable Sun has had... weird interactions with the Daimyo V's AEGIS VII shield systems. Several attempts at getting them to work together has resulted in both the spell and shield failing in a very showy explosion of light mana and shield shards. Miyu feels like she's close to unlocking some sort of offensive ability that relies on this interaction, and she could use it as a kind of impromptu holy frag grenade, but it seems very weak for the cost of causing both the AEGIS VII and Mantle of Unconquerable Sun to burn out for a few minutes, leaving the large target of the Daimyo V critically vulnerable to armor penetrating attacks. For now, Miyu uses the Mantle of Unconquerable Sun only on the direct components of the Daimyo V. Miyu's also gotten pretty good at feint swordsmanship. Many of her hardest opponents have outclassed the Diamyo V two to one or worse in agility due to their smaller size, leaving her with only the option of tricking them into a premature dodge if she wants to land a hit. Weapons: Outside of her mech, she has two blades. Also a pistol she's still learning the hang of. While military grade, these are not anything special otherwise. Equipment: Glasses. Very important. (Ruxen's Annoyance?) Age: 18 Gender: Female Allegiance: Hell Race: Dodo Harpy Demon Personality: Atarah has three primary loves. Serah, her one companion and friend, through everything she has been through. Even if Serah never actually says anything and just looks around with her googly eyes. If Serah was at risk, Atarah would be putty in the hands of whoever held Serah. No matter how much Atarah says she wants to be the best, and prove herself, and that she's an independent birb who don't need nobody, especially stupid other harpies, she still couldn't bear to be parted with Serah. Maximum Effort, a fight's not a real fight unless you're giving it your all! Atarah knows she's not strong enough to be taken seriously by the Nexus, practically nameless. But that's only who she is today. She has faith that she'll burst through her limitations and show the world the power of her effort. She just knows someday she'll be taken seriously, and have a cool title that people will whisper to themselves in fear as she dramatically strides into the room.. Oh, wouldn't that be lovely? Flight, no matter how much she pretends she's fine how she is and proud of her body, the fact that she can't fly in the skies burns in her heart. She has plenty of nightmares of finally being able to fly, only to suddenly fall. History: Born and raised in captivity, Atarah was a slave who, unlike the rest of her kin, could not fly to try and escape the harshest punishments of their masters. She could only crawl in the dust and hope it would hide her. When she saw their feared masters, she could not help but feel jealous of the fear they inspired in her? Wasn't she like that? Between her flightlessness and her desire to be like the demons who enslaved them, Atarah wasn't exactly good at making friends with the other harpies, but she made one, Serah. Serah had tasted the freedom of the sky, but had her wings clipped after her first attempt at escape. Together, they tried to survive. But they didn't. Serah died. Rather than having faith in some stupid male harpy who was supposed to be so great and save them, or some Deva who was supposed to take care of everyone who prayed to her (fat load of good that had done Serah), Atarah was determined to climb her way up in the nexus. She voluntarily joined the "foreign legion" of slaves who were used as cannon fodder in battle. She was not as good as she thought she was. Amidst the broken bodies of the damned, Atarah barely kept her mouth above the river of blood. Machina artilery and weapons had literally materialized out of thin air and light and pounded the slaves into the dirt, to clear the field of those who were not real fighters. While not as strong or great as she thought she was, she was still stronger than those other slaves by sheer determination and she rose from the corpses after the battle had passed over her. Only to hear a little squeak. Turning her head, she found a little bouncy ball of a demon struggling to keep its head above blood level. It had apparently been shielded from the blasts by the body of an emaciated dragon that had served as a mount for the fortunately ill-fated "sergant" of the slaves. Unable to pass by the only other survivor of the group, Atarah took in the little googly eyed squeeking thing. She presumed it was some kind of demon, as it had demonic energies. And she named it Serah. When Syphax "rescued" all the harpies by sheer luck, Atarah was enraged. Serah hadn't come with her. Tearing towards the demonic lands as soon as she was back in heaven, Atarah did not stop until she had clawed her way back into hell and found Serah again. She swore they'd never be apart again, and was so sorry that those mean angels had stolen Atarah away from Serah. She'd show those stupid harpies what she thought of anyone who would tear Atarah away from her REAL family. Powers: Soft Shadow Style- This "creatively" named style is Atarah's anti-Hard Light and Nanomachine technique. These constructs are machina staples, and Atarah has trained specifically to be be able to punch through them. She sends out a pulse of demonic energy which corrupts nanomachine code, and creates and marks weakpoints in hard light. Upon then hitting with another attack, this style shoots energy through the fracture points of an impact with a weakpoint, disrupting hard light into regular light. Against other stuff, it just lets Atarah know where her targets are after she lets out a pulse. Serah, the Earthshaker Lance- A tiny little bouncy ball of a demon, Serah is capable of transforming into a earth moving lance, capable of causing localized "earthquakes" (with video game physics), burrowing through the ground with rapid speed, and small scale earth manipulation apart from those specific applications. But most of the time she just nestles in Atarah's cozy chest feathers, as any sort of extended exertion is beyond the baby demon(?). Rare Earth Skin- Atarah's skin and feathers are pretty brutally tough, and not just physically, but also possessing demonic energy fields that work via corrupted magical magnetics to deflect or diffuse metal and laser based attacks (as long as holy magic is not involved). Unfortunately makes her vulnerable to magnetic fields in return, and she has accidentally deflected herself right off a machina airship when she wasn't paying attention. Just another way in which the Nexus, for all the gifts it has granted her, refuses to let her fly. She developed this power after Serah started nestling in her feathers, and it seems to be getting stronger all the time. Maximum Effort- Dime a dozen physical boost at the cost of energy/life limit ability. Atarah really wants to win, and she's willing to put her body beyond her limits to achieve that. To go even Further- Atarah's true power is to able to steal extreme effort. She thrives off people pushing themselves past their limits, including herself, a psychological obsession that has manifested a latent reality warping power. When someone uses an ability that has a significant stamina, reserve, charge up time, or life or what have you cost, such as Maximum Effort, Atarah spontaneously gains stamina/life/excetera equal to half of the resource spent. This doesn't do anything against normal attacks or such, only abilities that truly push someone past their limits. Thanks to how math works, this doubles the duration or power (depending on how Atarah allocates her power) of Maximum Effort. Which could be truly frightening if she was a powerful race instead of a harpy. Instead it just kinda maybe sorta gets her on par.
