Her father was sent to jail when she was 7 for a reason she still doesn't know as her mother always avoids the topic and gets angry when she insists. Life was grey and calm the first few months, but everything switched to pitch black when her mother started drinking. She became an alcoholic and rare were the cases when she was around. Even when she came home she didn't look once at her daughter and went straight to bed or more drinking. This went on for years and by then Amelia had learned how to take care of herself and even of her mother. She cooked, cleaned and took care of most of the things in the house, even going as far as to pay the bills using her mother's Credit card. Shopping for food, clothes and school supplies was also her job. In school she worked hard to keep her grades up and tried to avoid all conflicts as she knew that if the school called for her mother, which was an alcoholic who didn't even try to take care of her daughter, she would certainly be taken out of her custody. Her mother being as she is, only from losing her husband, would be destroyed if she also lost her daughter. Aside from that, Amelia didn't have any other family to look to, all her grandparents had passed away and no one came to support her or her mother in times of need. For all that woman's worth, she was the only family Amelia had and she would do her outmost to keep this "family" together. But fate had other plans.. A group of girls started to pick on her. Amelia had friends she talked to, she had high grades, she took care of her looks and tried her best to not get on anybody's bad side. She did all those things and still luck would have it that her once best friend would turn against her, starting to bully her. One day it got so bad that Amelia couldn't take it anymore. There is a limit to how much a person could endure, worn out by her rough life her limit was very low. She just exploded, releasing all her pent up anger towards her ex-bestie. There was a fight and they were both summoned to the principal's office, both required to bring their parents in, the next day. This was the end of the world for Amelia. Her mother was in debts because of her alcohol problem and they had bills ranging from 5 months ago unpayed, and now, this. She waited that night for her mother to come home, 12AM, 1AM, 2AM, until her eyes closed involuntarily and sleep took her into a better world. Come morning she awoke with tears in her eyes, sadness and stress quickly waking her up. She passed her mother's room which was never used by her, and went towards the couch in the living room, surrounded by a barricade of empty bottles of liquor her mother lay there drunken and unconscious. She tried to wake her up but to no avail, finally giving up she headed for school, arriving some minutes late then headed for class, hoping to pass all this ordeal quietly. When the teacher came in he made word to Amelia that the principal required her in his office. The time moved so slow and the road to his office looked so long but when she got in everything seemed like it fast forwarded from the moment she woke up that morning. The other girl's parents were there with their daughter by their side. When Amelia was asked for her mother's number she responded with:"I don't know". Same answer for every question relating to ways of contacting her guardian.. In few words, it didn't go well and she got warned to bring her guardian the next day unless things escalated. As she was leaving, the other girl had a small triumphant grin in her face. At this Amelia teared up and ran straight out of the principal's office, out of the school, towards her house. As soon as she walked in, she locked the door behind her, dropped her school bag and started crying. She had never cried so hard or so much in her life, today's events, her living condition, how her once best friend had rejoiced in her downfall, it all got to her. She finally slipped from the fragile balance she had set for herself, to keep her life from falling to bits and pieces. She cried and cried and finally darkness succumbed her. As the darkness finally lifted, her eyes felt tired, her lids heavy and her throat sore. She was so tired that she didn't care anymore, let them take her away, whatever happens, happens, it wouldn't be that bad, right?..NO, she couldn't let it end like this, after all she's been through, how could she? She got up and starting walking towards the living room with small, slow, uncertain steps which escalated to a walk then a half-run in the last few meters. When she got in the living room, her mother was laying in the couch, her favorite brand of liquor in her hand, bottle already half empty. A rage sparked inside Amelia guiding her next movements without her really thinking. She got the bottle from her mother's hand and threw it against the wall, breaking it to pieces. Surprise adorned the mother's face, quickly replaced by anger as she slapped her daughter to the ground without even fully processing what happened. Quickly regretting her decision she reached to help her daughter but her hand was slapped away. This is where everything changed. Amelia half-cried and half-yelled at her mother. About their living conditions, about her trouble in school, how she didn't want for them to get separated, how much all of this weighed on her and tired her, and how all of this was the mother's fault. Amidst sobs, the mother hugged her daughter, constantly saying:"I'm sorry" with tears streaming down her face and finally saying :"I will make this right for you, I promise"... The next day Amelia came to school with her mother and confronted the other girl's parents with the principal as the middle man. In the end they were both scolded and the bully got a warning to stop harassing Amelia unless she faced harsher consequences. A week later, the bully transferred school and was never seen from again. The other girls which usually harassed Amelia came up and apologized to her, an apology which she of course accepted. School life was finally starting to be fun for her. Her life in home was greatly improved, now her mother was taking care of the house work and cooking. After taking rehab, her mother applied for a new, better payed job, which she acquired. Every weekend she went out with her daughter and took her wherever she wanted, even going on short vacations. Life had turned from dark to white. She was finally living like a normal teenage girl should. By the start of highschool all their debts would be payed, having no more need for her mother to do 2 jobs, also with Amelia working as a waitress. They got a message saying that Amelia's father would come out of prison later this year, the same year she started highschool. Furthermore she had also heard from a friend that her school-bully would attend the same highschool as her. Amelia still has more hardships ahead of her, but isn't life usually full of them? And besides, after she's been through, she is stronger than ever and nothing will put her down.
|| THEME SONG ||
Fight song - Rachel Platten [sub]I'll be strong, This is my fight song[/sub]
|| OTHER ||
She is always a true fighter
