I think Leif has a hand-and-a-half sword more than a greatsword. But that vid will def help me with Jorwen's greatsword techniques.

But you also make it sound like you have a literary quandary with Leif, as well. If you don't want him on the back-burner, just use Leif as an independent character more. Try to delve into his head and think what a man like him, with his experiences would be like.

Jorwen is always there for the man to talk to if you're looking to just use him more and bounce the character off of another. Collabs are a useful tool for developing a character.
