Maybe a shadow of the rings he used to have, as his body is so used to that format. They would be more of an aura projection rather than the same ability. He'd form pseudo-armor of kinetic energy in the locations where the rings used to be, maybe taking up the area where the rings were spaced out. So his hands would be covered so he could strike at energy blasts with just his hands instead of blowing his skin clean off. A defensive ability at its core, sort of like a reversal of the purely offensive rings.
