Emmaline Blakeley
This was it, Emma thought as the room sharpened into focus. They'd arrived. Two hundred years... She could barely believe it. As her body awakened, so did mixed emotions. Her old life on Erellon was over, but this was the new beginning she'd wanted. This opportunity had been too good to pass up. She stretched her stiff limbs, removing the electrodes once she could move her fingers enough to do so. Wait... What was that? She looked at her hands and cringed. There was still a faint green tinge to her skin, a reminder of a failed potion. Not permanent, she reminded herself. The colour had faded considerably during the two weeks since the mishap, not a vivid apple shade any more, and she no longer glowed in the dark. The remainder of the effect had simply been frozen in stasis. It would fade over the next few days, and she'd be well-camouflaged among Earth's foliage while tracking, at least. How had she even got that potion so wrong, anyway? Ok, so it was one of the more advanced energy potions, meant to help her study far longer than usual during training, but the basic ones she'd mastered were easy enough. No more extra-strength energy potions for her. In fact, even correctly brewed ones that wouldn't turn her fluorescent green were a bad idea. As well as the unwanted side effect, this one had also had the desired primary effect, which had turned out not to be such a good thing for someone as vivacious as her. She hoped nobody would mention the incident with all those grasshoppers. It had nearly got her kicked off the mission. As she completed the quiz at the computer, the cries of waking animals from another room caught her attention. She turned her head. Squeals, chirps and grunts, murmurs of confusion, growing louder. Her own chibit, the animal she had the strongest bond with, called for her. Maia's disoriented thoughts brushed at Emma's consciousness. "Maia?" Emma rushed towards the animal room. "It's ok, Maia, I'm awake. We're here!" As she bounded in, she noticed a few other people had already woken up. "Heyyyyy anyone else ready?" she asked, an excited grin plastered all over her face, before promptly falling over. Maybe she shouldn't have tried to run right after having come out of stasis. She sat up, looking into a pair of green eyes. The chibit staggered towards her, squeaking her distress at the difficulty of her movements. "Hey, it's alright," Emma soothed, stroking Maia on the head. "It'll pass." She smiled as Maia started purring and fluttered somewhat unsteadily onto her shoulder. "Want to see what Earth is like?" Maia gave an enthusiastic chirrup, just as eager to explore as Emma was.
