The Republic of Morulia

Nation Sheet Template Name: Morulia Demonym: Morulian Head of State: President Drako Migrol National Religion: Population: 11.6 million Description: Ever since seafaring conquerors arrived to conquer the westernmost shores of the continent, Morulia has been culturally and politically aligned with the west. During the Great War, Morulia was occupied by Atronian forces in order to prevent enemy forces from acquiring airfields near enough to strike at Atronian soil. Atronian forces have since left Morulia, but the Morulian government remains subservient to Atronia. The Atronian Air Force still maintains an airbase on a Morulian island just off the coast of mainland, and the Morulian economy is dependent on exports to Atronia. In the north, however, the Artakh people are restive and look longingly toward the Republic of Uchu. Terrorism and civil unrest bubble under the surface in Artakhia, threatening to boil over into a civil war that would disrupt the iron mining that the Morulian economy depends upon. Government: A presidential republic broken into a eight divisions of public administration known as Bureaus. Morulia itself is also divided into eight political divisions known as prefectures, each governed by an elected prefect that governs the prefecture in accordance with the wishes of his constituency. In addition to the eight prefectures, the Capital District and the Autonomous Artakhia District elect their own executive officers, known as Secretaries. National Anthem: The Triumph of Niresti Economy:
While agriculture is a major industry in the southern prefectures and natural gas extraction is vital to Artakhia, the Morulian economy as a whole is centered on manufacturing. Iron mines in eastern Artakhia and Alpria provide the raw material for a myriad of machine parts and components. The iron ore is floated down the River Talta by barge to the steel mills of Andrenia. Some of this steel is consumed by the Sovoda Shipyard at the mouth of the Talta, and most of the rest is sent by rail or freight ship to the western coast. Factories in the west use use the steel to build all manner of machine components - everything from motorized pumps to aircraft engines - to be sold to western companies. Because Morulia's laborers are significantly lower-paid than their Atronian counterparts, western companies have found it profitable to outsource some assembly jobs to Morulian factories.
Geography:
http://i.imgur.com/egaE8H1.jpg

Morulia is a country of varied climates and topography. Along the southern coast, the weather is mild and the terrain composed of wide plains that slope gently down toward the sea. Going north and inland, the terrain transitions to rolling hills that run along the toe of the Onyeta Mountains. The aforementioned mountain range encompasses much of the borderlands of Alpria and Artakhia.
Demographics
(Makeup of your population; ethnicities, languages, minorities.)
Notable Locations
-Rydom: The capital and largest city of Morulia is situated on the western coast facing toward Anton, the land from whence ancient seafarers came to settle conquer modern Morulia in antiquity. In addition to serving as the national capital, Rydom is a major port and the nation's industrial hub. -Sovoda: Located at an inlet near the mouth of the Talta River in the east of the country, Sovoda is the nation's busiest port. Shipbuilding is a key industry in this city and several drydocks jut into the harbor. The Morulian Armada has a major presence in Sovoda as well; a naval base and shipyard form a sprawling complex just south of the city. -Belkha: The capital of the Artakhia Autonomous District, ethnic Artakhians form a majority of the population here. Situated near the headwaters of Talta the in the Onyeta Mountains, Belkha is only four hundred miles away from Uchuan territory. Historically-aligned with Uchu against the Atronian-backed government in Rydom, the Artakh people have long sought independence or union with the Republic of Uchu. Terrorist plots against ethnic Morulians are not uncommon, and the Morulian Army maintains a garrison in the city to maintain order. -Varnyd Airbase: On the easternmost of the Tela Islands, the Morulian government leases out an airbase to be used by the Atronian Air Force, providing Atronia an excellent springboard to carry out sorties throughout the continent. -Talta Dam: One hundred miles southwest of Belkha, the Talta River is dammed across a sheer valley in the Onyeta Mountains. Meltwater from across the river's mountainous drainage basin collects in a massive reservoir known as Lake Talta. The dam provides cheap hydroelectric power for much of north and eastern Morulia and flood control for towns and cities downstream. The deep blue lake, set against a backdrop of snowcapped mountains and pine forests makes for spectacular vistas. Much of Lake Talta's shores fall in a large national park, and wealthy Morulians and foreigners often build summer homes along the water.
Regime Personalities and Factions
President Drako Migrol: Formerly the owner of one of Morulia's largest manufacturing firms, President Migrol has maintained an amicable relationship with Atronia. His supporters laud him for strengthening Morulia's alliance and economic partnership with Atronia, but his detractors bring forth claims of cronyism and subservience to Atronia at the expense of the common people of Morulia. Delegate Elyna Istovid Likely selected to showcase Morulia as a progressive and equality-minded nation, Istovid is the first woman to be selected as a nation's delegate in the history of the World Conclave. Commandant Vilmos Estanym: Commander of Morulia's armed forces and adviser to the President concerning military affairs. Commandant Estanym served a critical role in quelling rampant revolt in Artakhia 15 years ago and thereby preventing a bloody civil war in the north. He has nothing but contempt for the Artakhian minority against which he spent nearly a decade subduing, and is suspicious of their support for Uchu. Yerislan Khovod: Leader of the Artakh Resistance, a paramilitary organization devoted to establishing an independent and socialist Artakhia. Having volunteered in the Uchuan Army, Khovod is no stranger to combat and is ready to impart his training and experience to the disenfranchised men of Artakhia in order to make war against the Morulian occupiers. Khovod has at least nominal support from Uchu, but whether the communist superpower sees Khovod and his followers as valuable allies or useful idiots is unclear. -
Institutions
(Major institutions of the nations, such as legislative bodies, corporations and, most importantly, the military.)
Military Numbers
Active Duty Component Total: Army: Navy: Air Force: Other: (Such as KGB/Waffen-SS/Pasdaran/Other type troops -- internal security, or paramilitary forces)
