I could also see his family kinda looking down on her family in general because they don't come from money and it kinda shows, but also there aren't many other prospects so " They'll do" socially. And Maren sees them as stuck up, but people she has come to accept as people she has to be around. 

I feel like that would come across in their relationship a bit. Buttttt we shall see
