Upon seeing Cody slipping through the shield, Ruslan tries to get past it too. [i]No one knows what can get through this and what can't, so let's just try,[/i] he thought. However, he seems to hit something when he didn't expect one, akin to people hitting glass walls when they think the walls weren't there. In that second he knows he cannot get through the shield and has to get around it. He then walks away from it, heading to reach the building from the opposite side.

For the moment, that is the right decision, because seconds after that, the attackers start firing on the location where Ruslan made the contact with the shield. Apparently whoever deployed the shield knows about his contact with the shield and relayed the information to the rest of the attackers. Although he cannot do what Cody did, at least the opening of the tunnel isn't fired at, and even if it's fired at, he can now help stop the bullets; while at the tunnels, he can't stop them because he can't look at them.
