Kat hugged Gracie close. It had happened. Nikki was gone. Taken, by the dangerous bastard that had killed Jenna. Matt had insisted they were safe here. Had promised her. But he had been wrong. Now that Nikki and his unborn child, not to mention his siblings, were out of harm's way, there was nothing to stop Vincent from coming in here, guns blazing, to kill them all. It was not going to happen. Not to her or her baby. Matt had already left with Kyle to find Nikki, if they didn't get themselves killed in the process. Kat's heart was breaking within her, knowing what she had to do but not wanting to do it, wishing there was another way. But no matter how much she tried, the same solution kept presenting itself: She had to leave. Getting up, she placed a whimpering Gracie on the bed and dug until she found a pen and paper. She wasn't going out like last time. This time she was going to let Matt know.
Matt, I am happy you made it back alive to read this. I pray Nikki and her baby are once again with you and Kyle. By the time you read this, Gracie and I will be gone. I cannot stay here. You said we are safe, but we are not. I know it's not your fault, so do not blame yourself. You are a good man and I love you, but I do not feel safe here. Vincent will come back and kill us all. Knowing you, you will try and make a stand against him. Never forget that I love you Matt. I would never keep Gracie or our new child from you. I have an idea of where to go and it is not far away. If anyone has a change of beating Vincent, it's you. Once he is dead and we are safe again, come and find us. I have faith in you. Kat
With a heavy heart, Kat placed the note on the bed. Getting a bag she packed a few clothes but left a majority of things as a clue for Matt. Where she was thinking of going was a Walmart on the other side of the city. It would not be easy to get there, especially with a baby, but she would manage as she always had. Kat shouldered the bag and balanced Gracie on her hip. She would borrow a gun from the armory and maybe a blade or two. She didn't want to go to the kitchen, without Jenna there it seemed wrong, but she knew she'd have to grab at least a few food supplies. Going out of the room, she made her way down the halls quietly, praying no one saw her and asked questions or worse tried to stop her.
