Keep in mind, the 'mechanics' of this game won't be like the Halo games or other FPS games. You won't just shrug off bullets and plasma like it's nothing. 

If you get shot, chances are you won't die because you have high grade armor, but you bet your butt it's gonna knock you on your butt or send you recoiling and into cover. And if and when the plasma starts raining, if you get hit, you're fucked.
