The computer crunched numbers to see who advanced and it showed them on the jumbotron, adding one's picture at a time, in the order of most to fewest points. That order (only counting named characters) was: Wallace, Shiranui, Liam, Drew and May appeared together since they tied, Soledad, and Nando. The computer shuffled the thirty-two contenders for round 2.

Liam used Hydro the Blastoise and Pikachu in his first match, defeating Rhyhorn and Pidgeotto. Nando used Sunflora and Krickitune to beat Gloom and Furret. Harley's Cacturne and Wigglytuff bested an Nidoking and Nidoquen, May used Munchlax and Glaceon and won by knockout against Steelix and Shuckle, Drew used Roserade and Flygon to defeat a pair of Clefable and Soladad used Slowbro and Laparas to defeat Umbreon and Raichu.
