[@NachoBachoPacho] Desert sounds rad. I'm actually ironically embracing the stones and soil for Nnmerra now and making her a full Earth Goddess. She's all about agriculture and fertility though so the barrenness of a desert landscape really isn't up her alley.

When I think "deserts", I get images of wanderers trekking over endless arid landscape. Maybe your God could be a protector of nomads, similar to how Hermes from Greek legend was a protector of thieves?
