Echo is hoping that he dies. It also doesn't make much sense to keep him alive from an IC standpoint since it means we will need to either put him in charge or imprison him. From a realistic standpoint people would probably decide to freeze him in the faulty tank and seal the tank if he survives waking up before some sort of containment is established. From a story standpoint we absolutely need some sort of leverage to keep us from story exit. That being said, the character has not met the criteria for exit. He needed to die leaving the question "how are they going to get along as a group if one of them is willing and capable of killing the others?" Since that question is resolved, he MUST serve a secondary function before exit... A foreboding threat, pointing out the flaws of trying to get him to cooperate, showing the logistical nightmare of imprisonment during limited resources. To simply have him die might be realistic but would leave the story with "what the heck was that?"
