Perhaps a retcon upgrade? She could make phantom blades of her own weapon appear and control them telepathically or something. Mix dust for extra effects like ice dust to freeze and enemy where it hits, or fire to cause them to burn, etc and etc. Or just go unlimited blade works. That's cool too.
