He finds it to be...... darkness. The antithesis of life. And as he studies it, he finds it studying him as well. The line [i]When you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares into you[/i] pops into his head, as he realizes the Darkness isn't attacking. It isn't trying to kill Mephiles. It found something weird, and it's poking it with it's finger. The death of the planet, the barrier of shadow, the drawing of emotion...... those are all just natural aspects of it's presence.
