[@LuckyBlackCat] So I looked it up, and that did indeed happen, but the purrloin didn't exactly belong to the girl. Hugh's grandfather caught it for her and passed away while she was still too young to be a trainer. That was more like stealing a pet than a trainer's Pokemon.
