[@Ashevelendar] I didnt saw many good emulators, some were simply virus traps as well. But then again I searched for it quite a while ago.  Reading on pokemon wiki or maybe a play rom hack/fangame can be useful? 
pokemon insurgence is a good game. There I am pretty sure you have 
1-6  generation
When it comes to naming my pokemon well I very often give them normal names. Eliza, Tony, Ivan or whatever the random name generator throws at me. I like the surprise.~
