Leisy Takigawa
Leisy walked along the path, eyes trained on the dirt path in front of her. It’d been hours since she’d stepped foot out of the city, and she still hadn’t seen anything other than that damned caterpie. I don’t suppose the pokemon all collectively decided to shun me? Leisy thought, amused by the thought. That’s impossible, right? While she hadn’t seen any pokemon with her eyes, Leisy had heard plenty of rustling bushes scattering rocks to know that pokemon were indeed nearby. Leisy sighed as she checked her watch—almost two thirty in the afternoon—and decided to stop by a walnut tree near the edge of the road. She leaned against the tree, enjoying the cool shade and the only slightly detectable breeze. I’d almost forgotten how hot Central City can get sometimes, Leisy thought with a grin, shedding her thin jacket and pulling a water bottle out from her bag. Savoring the not-so-cold liquid, Leisy wiped her mouth with the back of her hand, taking a moment to survey her surroundings. After she’d stopped moving around so much, Leisy realized that life suddenly returned to the previously quiet forest. Bird pokemon could be heard singing in the trees, jumping from branch to branch as their chirps filled the air. The bushes rustled lightly here and there, and pokemon started appearing. Purple mouse-like pokemon scrambled out from the undergrowth, whiskers twitching as they sniffed around for stray berries or nuts. Black and white bird pokemon flew down from the trees, calling to each other merrily as they pecked around for stray seeds as the little tuft on their head swayed with every movement. A group of brown bunny pokemon with cotton ball features hopped out from a bush some distance from the tree against which Leisy was leaning, playfully cooing at each other as their floppy ears flapped with every hop. A magnificent rabbit followed in their midst, its light cotton ears and feet fluffy and beautiful as it gracefully trailed behind the group of rowdy young pokemon. Leisy sucked in a breath at the sight of the larger pokemon looking kindly onto what Leisy could only assume was her litter, wishing now more than ever that she had a camera. The next town I find, I’ll get one, Leisy thought. Even if I have to break my promise and phone Mom and Dad. Just this once, just for a camera. It’s absolutely essential. Slowly maneuvering her hand to her back pocket to retrieve her pokedex, Leisy crossed her fingers in her head in hopes that the family of rabbit pokemon wouldn’t move away too quickly. Just as she was about to open the slim white device, a rustle of leaves overhead alerted Leisy to the fact that she was being watched. Looking up, the girl met the yellow-tipped eyes of a orange-hooded bird with a stunning black-and-white plumage on its tail. Leisy stared in amazed wonder at the bird as it watched her, silent and unmoving on its perch. Please don’t leave either, Leisy thought, raising her pokedex to the bird on the branch. I’ll give up the on all the whiskered mice, the white-faced birds, and fluffy rabbits if you stay still on your branch. Just for a minute--this minute.
