Yeah you're free to apply, as [@LegionPothIX] said just make sure you're upto date with everything that's going on and if you need it (probably will relate to what kinda character you play) I can throw up a summary. 

Right now I'm not looking for anything in particular so really go with what interests you, the more diverse the cast the more fun we'll have later.
