So. Wick , without saying too much about the story I planned , the Mage that stole that amulet piece is trying to do something to bring back the Magi's true power. 
Everyone that is sent to this "Wasteland" to find the other parts of the amulet. No one entered the Wasteland and lived. Creatures , magical residue ( that kills / mutates ) and things like that.
