It would have a lot more effect if he was working in tandem with another person, or maybe two. Before he even attempted to jump away before the Taijitu attacked him, he saw the girl in the flowery dress. She was gesturing frantically. The monkey Faunus nodded and then indeed ran to the left, gravity dust deactivated as he did so, effectively moving out of the way of the Taijitu and whatever the girl had in plan.
