Any fellow Pokemon enthusiasts among you all?
Honestly I've more or less been turned off Pokemon as of late. When I was little I loved it, still do... sort of, I've got so many games, Red, Crystal, Pokemon Trading Card Game for Gameboy Color, FireRed, LeafGreen, Emerald, Ruby, XD: Gale of Darkness, Explorers of Time, one of the Rangers games, Diamond, HeartGold and SoulSilver, Black, Alpha Sapphire. I think it was Black that made me realize that Pokemon's become completely mechanized. It's almost as bad as the Adam West Batman show where every episode had the same plot. Get a Pokemon and Pokedex from the local professor, collect the gym badges, face off against whatever Team is featured who's goal no one cares about and who's plan is nonsensical and destructive. Beat the Elite Four and get prestige which you don't get to keep cause for some reason your rival stays the Champion even after you kick his ass. With the exception of Mystery Dungeon (which is really just another game genre with a Pokemon theme) and Rangers (seemed like a good idea in concept but wasn't all that much fun) all the Pokemon games are basically identical with new Pokemon and slight variations on design with minor gimmicks added. There's barely any strategy too it anymore and Emerald was the last time where you actual had to figure out what you were doing, which town you were supposed to get to and how to get there. All the new ones (possibly with the exception of X and Y which I haven't played) you basically just go from one town to the next to the next to the next until the game is done. Maybe it was always that way and I'm just not as enthralled with it as I was when I was fourteen or maybe the magic disappeared from Pokemon after having essentially played the same game upwards of six or seven times. I dunno but honestly its pretty much lost its charm for me. I might buy Sun or Moon but in all honesty if I do it'll be more to complete my (disturbingly large) collection of Nintendo games more than to actual play them. Hell I might not even take them out of the package. It just seems to me that with such a rich and interesting world you should be able to make more than a single plot line. I mean what happened to the days of Pokemon games like Pokemon Snap and Gale of Darkness, those were fun. Now Pokemon's just kind of boring.
