Kojo does not lack for confidence. On occasion people confuse his confidence and aggressive style for arrogance. But they are not wrong, because he can be arrogant at times. He is also professional in his work habits and knows to keep his mouth silent during operations aboard ship. Kojo enjoys both physical and intellectual pursuits. In his free time, Kojo exercises in the workout room, runs on deck two, three or four, reads novels and socializes with other officers in the officer's mess on deck two.

Kojo Uhura-Jabari was born to Nyota Uhura, Commander (Retired) and Amadi Jabari, Admiral (Retired) in Monrovia, Liberia, The United States of Africa on February 8, 2266. Young Kojo was raised by relatives as his Starfleet parents were frequently deployed to distant locations in the known universe. Although he questioned his parent's intentions, to himself and to his family, he lived a happy and loving life on earth.

When it was his time to choose a path, he followed his parents, enrolling in Starfleet. He was torn between tactical and security, but felt he had better chance of advancement by pursuing the tactical course of study. He learned everything he could about flying star ships, the schematics and operations of various phasers, photon torpedoes, sensor arrays and navigational charts. He thoroughly enjoyed his course study, putting himself into everything he studied.

As a young man, he trained in taekwondo earning a first dan at age 12. As a young teen, he had the opportunity to train in both Muay Thai and Brazilian Ju-jitsu. Kojo has always been attracted to physical pursuits. Later in his teen years, he included Krav Maga which is a hybrid martial art form employing techniques from BJJ, taekwondo and Muay Thai. In his last three years of secondary education he trained in Kenjutsu or the Japanese form of bladed combat. He fights very well with the Japanese curved sword, Katana and Wakizashi.

After graduating from Starfleet Academy, Kojo was posted aboard the [i]USS Majestic[/i], a Miranda-Class medium Cruiser as its Helmsman. He served in this capacity for four years. Upon receiving a promotion to full Lieutenant, he was reassigned to the [i]USS Tricyion[/i], as ship's helmsman.
